Betty Jean Glanz

September 4, 1956 – July 25, 2014

Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Friend

Betty Glanz of Burien, Washington went to be with the Lord after a battle with cancer at the young age of 57.

Betty is the loving wife of Terry Glanz and mother of Leah Glanz who have shared the love and friendship we can only dream of.

Betty is the daughter of reverend Joseph and Alice Overstreet. She also leaves behind two brothers, Harold and J.J. Overstreet.

Betty has many nephews and nieces along with friends and co-workers that believe Betty’s smile and humor will be treasured for a lifetime and greatly missed.

Betty was born in Douglas, Wyoming on September 4, 1956. She was raised in the Assemblies of God church. She was blessed with the gift of music, playing piano and singing in the church, even as an adult.

Betty met her soul mate in Alaska in 1979 as co-workers. They married soon after and gave birth to their only daughter, Leah, one year later while living in Seattle. After several years the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where Betty was offered a job with a law firm, spending much of her time focused on the Valdez oil spill case. In 1996 the family picked up roots and returned to Seattle, Washington. Soon after, Betty was hired with the Highline School District. She lent her smile to the front desk of Human Resources.

Her passions included music (paying piano, singing), enjoying the beach, where she could listen to the waves and spend hours collected the smallest of shells. She adored the water, vacationing in placed like Cancun, Lake Tahoe, Hawaii and Florida with her family and friends. The spring season brought her joy, the change in the air and blooming flowers. Betty took every opportunity to spoil her only daughter, Leah. Her husband and daughter were her best friends and the light of her life.

From a young age Betty had a close relationship with the Lord. She lived by the Fruit of the Spirit and everyone that knew Betty would agree that she lived by Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control. Galatians 5:22

God called his angel home on July 25, 2014.

Betty is one of those people you will always remember. She left a lasting memory with everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. She was loving, kind, carrying and funny with a tongue in cheek humor. Her laugh made everyone smile. Betty's position at Highline might be replaced but Betty will never be replaced. She will be missed dearly for many, many years to come and everyone who knew Betty has an empty spot in their heart. Our love and thoughts are with Terry and Leah.

That picture tells the story. She was loved by her husband and family, as well as by us. She will be missed but we understand that when God's mission for us here on earth is complete that our God calls us home. She has touched and left her mark on each one of us in so many ways. May God be with those that remain until we too are called home to be with our Savior and those who have gone on before.

Betty was such a special person - in talent, personality, and, most especially, in her Christian witness. She leaves a big hole in so many lives. I'm glad she's free of pain and that she is with her father but she's going to be so missed.

Thank you Betty for all the beautiful memories, counsel and guideance you have given to me throughout the years. You have shown me I am part of the Fellowship of the Unashamed. The die has been cast. The decision has ben made. I won't look back, let up, slow down, back away or be still. My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, and my future is secure. I'm finished and done with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking, cheep giving, and dwarfed goals. I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits or popularity. I don't have to be right, first tops, recognized, praised, regarded or rewarded. I now live by faith, lean on His presence, love with patience, live by prayer and labor with power. My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is heaven, my road narrow, my way is rough, my companions are few, my Guide is reliable, and my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I wont give up, shut up, let up or slow up until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up and spoken up for the cause of Christ. I am a deciple of Jesus. I must go till He comes, give till I drop, preach till all know and work till He stops me. And when He comes for His own, He will have no problem recognizing me. My banner is clear: I am part of the Felloeship of the Unashamed. Thank you Betty for all your love in the Spirit. Until we meet again....

Like everyone, I'll miss Betty in so many ways. It was wonderful to hear people reflect on how much of an impact she made in their lives. She left too soon, but left an impression on a lot of people that will be felt forever.

I/m not sure if even Betty knew what an impact she had on the HR staff when she was first a substitute in the office. As I was thinking over all of the things we were involved in together and did together with other friends, I also was remembering how we first met. She was substituting in the department when was first transferred to it in January of 1996 ( I think). Anyway, I will always remember that fantastic smile and how she made me feel comfortable. The longer I worked with her the more I liked her...not just her personally but her professionalism as well and the way she treated people. No matter who, she showed them respect and genuine concern as to why they were there The rest of the staff felt the same towards her.

I can't remember exactly when but the receptionist position opened in the office and she applied for it. It came down to two candidates (almost identical qualifications) and the staff thought they just couldn't lose her. They held a meeting with the Director of HR and each one of the staff gave their reason or reasons for keeping Betty on staff as a permanent employee. I don't know if this had an impact on the interview committee;s decision, but we like to think so. Anyway, either way it shows what an impact she had...she was needed and she was hired. As far as I know, there is not one person who knew Betty that didn't fall in love with her. God did create the perfect person! I will truly miss my awesome friend...till we meet again.

Terry and Leah,

I am so sorry for your loss and please know I will keep you in my prayers. Betty was a very special person who touched so many peoples lives and I personally will miss her more than words can say. I was fortunate to be able to hear her family speak at the services today and get to know a part of Betty's life outside of our friendship at work. A grand tribute and reflection of her life!
