Willie Walker was welcomed into this world on December 10, 1941 by proud parents Versie Walker and Mabel Cosey in Hollandale, Mississippi. Willie was welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 14, 2014.
Willie was pre-deceased by both parents, Sisters Carletha Webster and Essie Walker, Brothers Earl and Larry James, Great-grandson Ja’Marion Vanga-Malvor and Great-granddaughter Johne’t Jackson.
Willie attended Garfield High School in Seattle. Along his way in life, he befriended many via parties, work and fishing. Willie worked for the railroad system for nine years, then began his amazing career as a Sanitation Engineer with U. S. Disposal and joined Teamsters Local 174. Willie retired after 32 industrious years. Everyone who knew Willie knows he excelled at cooking everything. He loved to cook for anybody and any occasion. His BBQ would make you holla, and his fried fish would make your toes curl!!! Willie mastered the art of making hog head cheese to his friends’ enjoyment. Cooking was only one of Willie’s memorable qualities.
During Willie’s retirement, he dedicated himself to catching the “big one!” His passion for fishing especially at Mar Don Resort (Potholes), where he has had a summer home for over 25 years helped him pursue that conquest. Every year on the Mar Don dock (his favorite place on the planet), he would catch the most and largest crappies!!!
Willie will be deeply missed by his loving family. In 1962, he married ex-wife Geraldine Woffert and from this marriage they were blessed with five incredible children: William (Crystal), David, Dana, Geraldine Lynn and Jeffery (Sheila). Willie later met his soul mate and love of his life, Zenobia Brooks. They shared 33 years enjoying life and each other. Willie gladly opened his heart and arms to daughters Ulta (Darren) and Marla (Jeffry) and committed his life to all his children.
Willie’s joy and happiness was constantly expanded with births of his 16 grandchildren: Moraima (Ike), Burke, Jacquell (Nate), Brooke, Ashley, Brittany, Amber, Courtney, Autumn, Jordan, Gregory, David Jr. (aka Buddy), Markaylah, Jaelyn, Javaughn, and Azaan. As Willie’s family expanded 4 great-grandchildren were welcomed Sintez, Malachi, Najae and Henry. Willie will also be missed by his four-legged children, Chihuahuas’ Oreo and Cookie and a host of other relatives and friends.
