I am incredibly sorry for the loss of Cearra. She was a student of mine in the Culinary Arts program at Puget Sound Skills Center. She was well beyond her years and was truly passionate about cooking. I will always remember the e-mails back and fourth as she progressed into her post-secondary goals.

Cearra always made an effort to keep in touch sending me many photos of the different dishes she was most proud of. Her classmates looked to her for guidance, she was a natural teacher. Cearra worked very hard over the two years she was with us and earned the highest achievement in our class by earning her certification through the American Culinary Federation.

The Hospitality Industry has lost a future leader and exceptional cook. Cearra was always humble and you could count on her for anything.

Cearra will truly be missed by the entire Culianry department at PSSC:

My condolences goes out to my husband Jamere Dillard, brothers in law Deverald and Cecil Dillard III, on the loss of their baby sister, and to my father in law Cecil Dillard on the loss of his daughter. As a family, lets stand together in this time of tragedy. My heart goes out to you all!

John 14:27-29

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. You heard me say to you, I am going away, and I will come to you. If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe.

I am so sorry to hear of Cearra's passing. She was a student of mine in the culinary program at the Art Institute of Seattle. In class I was struck by Cearra's maturity and intelligence. For someone so young she behaved like someone much older. The first time I had her in class, students were required to do a complicated project involving creating their own menu, and then calculating the portion cost of all the dishes. The project involves spreadsheets and mathematical formulas which throw many culinary students for a loop. Some students grasp it right away. Others struggle and give up. Others struggle but ask questions and push through it. Cearra was very quiet in class, and didn't ask many questions, leading me to believe she had fallen into the camp that was just going to ignore the challenge of the project because it was too hard. When it came time for students to show me their work, Cearra's project was amazing. Not only had she created an interesting menu, but her calculations were accurate and complete. She was a special student and a special person. I passed her in the hallway the day she died. I was in a hurry and didn't see her, but she tapped me on the arm to say hello in passing. What a great person. She will be missed by all of us here at the Art Institute.
