Jul 24, 1953 – Dec 15, 2015
Terry was born July 24th 1953 at 10:03pm in Los Angeles, California to Dorothy Mae Green, father (unknown). Her mother married Robert Lee Carson when she was 11 years old and he became the only daddy she ever knew and loved. She grew up in the Imperial Projects and Central Los Angeles and attended elementary schools 79th Street and Palmalee and Edison Junior HS. Her daddy Robert moved them to Perris, CA in 1967 a year after the Watts riot for a better life for his new family. She attended Perris Valley Junior High and graduated Perris High School in 1971. Terry enjoyed playing sports and was very athletic in softball and lettered in track. She attended Riverside Community College until 1973 majoring in accounting. In 1973 she married Curtis F. Wells and became a stepmother to his two sons Curtis Jr. and Kevin at the age of 19 years. From that union she was also given two more beautiful gifts from God for her to mother: Shirene Monet’ Wells born in 1976 and Christopher Franklin Wells born in 1983. Terry said, “That motherhood was her biggest and most amazing and rewarding career of her life! God blessed her with a bonus gift in 2000 when her beautiful granddaughter Myonna Joelle Burns was born. She then said, “That becoming a “Grammie” was just awesome!”
Terry worked for the Boeing Commercial Airplane Company from 1973 to 2003. She worked her way up from Clerk Typist to Business Finance Analyst. After 30 years with Boeing and meeting several work friends that would become life-long friends Terry was laid off due to her loss of seniority by switching career fields two months before 9/11. She saw this as an opportunity to finally finish her college degree. Although Terry had only one quarter left to get her Computer Technical Support AA degree, she decided to switch her major to Early Childhood Education and graduated in 2006, Phi Theta Kappa with a 4.0 GPA at 53 years old!
She had several hiring possibilities in the private and public school districts in Bellevue and Mercer Island but Terry wanted to teach in a program that had the most socially economically disadvantage like herself growing up in LA. She was immediately hired by the Renton School District to work in their Early Childhood School ECCAP Program (state funded Head Start program). She later was hired full time as a Lead Teacher for Federal Head Start Program in 2008. Terry absolutely loved teaching and was known as “Teacher Terry” by her loving little students, parents and coworkers. Terry said, “She finally found her passion and a career she loved (besides being a mother and grammie) that she looked forward to getting up every morning to get there because it was fun!” She taught from 2006 to 2012 for the Renton School District until she regretfully had to retire due to medical reasons. She felt extremely blessed that she had an opportunity to touch so many children lives during those years.
Terry loved God and accepted him in her heart at the age of six years old. She grew up going to what it seemed like every evangelist tent meeting that came to town. But it gave her the spiritually faith and grounding she needed to get through life. She fully rededicated her life to God in 2004 and joined New Beginning Christian Fellowship in 2005 and worked with the children’s ministry. Terry enjoyed her life by spending time with family, friends, traveling, photography, scrapbooking and baking. She was known for showing her love for her family and friends by baking cakes, pies and homemade rolls. She really enjoyed making people laugh and was a funny lady. She was loving, loyal, compassionate, empathic, and dependable and always willing to listen and help family, friends or just someone in need. Her giving heart got her in trouble with her family at times but Terry believed that the reason she was so blessed over her lifetime considering her challenging childhood is because of her understanding of having a loving giving heart.
Terry finished her life race on 12/15/2015 and was called home to receive her reward. Her parents Robert Lee and Dorothy Mae Carson preceded her in death. She leaves behind the people she shared her life with: Shirene M. Wells, daughter (Renton), Christopher (Cheri) Wells, son (Bellevue); Myonna Joelle Burns, (granddaughter), 3 brothers Charles Scott (Rialto, CA), JC Ephraim (Kent, WA), Donald Ephraim (Upland, CA); 2 sisters Karen Ephraim (Upland, CA) and Ruby Carson (San Jacinto, CA): Cousin Delores (Bruce); Stephanie Wright (god sister); 4 nieces; 2 nephews; Sista friends Beverley, Deborah, Gloria, Jeanette, Annette, Diana, Tammy and Teresa and a host of friends.
