Obituary

On the evening of January 21, 2017 Carol Ann Brooking passed away surrounded by family at Northwest Hospital in Seattle, WA as a result of complications from pneumonia and the flu.  Carol was 75 years old.

Carol was born in Worthington, MN on May 26, 1941.  She was the only child of Vernon and Loretta Brandenburg.  Later she moved to Luverne, MN.   She lived in a tight-knit community surrounded by family and friends.

After high school Carol attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing and later worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Carol moved to Seattle, WA in the 1960’s and worked as a nurse there for 40 years.

In 1970 Carol met Roger Brooking on a blind date and married him three months later.  They remained happily married until her death 46 years later.  They had one son, Bill in 1972.

Carol was an incredible mother to Bill, offering unconditional support and love.  She was incredibly generous with her time and Bill always knew that she would be there for him.

When Bill married his wife Leya in 1996 Carol gained a daughter.  Her love and care for Leya were exceptional and the two shared a rare bond.   The two of them even bought a vacation house together and often laughed about all of the adventures they had while looking at houses in Arizona.

When she became a grandmother to Dominique in 2002 and to Amelia in 2008 her generosity and love became even more apparent.  She was a fabulous grandma to the girls and will be sorely, sorely missed.

Carol loved the holidays like no other person we’ve ever seen.  She would decorate her house for every single holiday all year long and enjoyed celebrating them with her family and friends.   If you were in her family you could count on a card from Carol for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, and any other holiday that she could think of.

While Carol’s generosity and love were exceptional, her greatest accomplishment was in her faith life.  A devout Catholic her whole life she raised her son Bill in the faith and helped to guide her grandchildren as well.  Carol never missed a Sunday Mass and once she retired, became a daily mass goer.

Carol is survived by her husband Roger, her son Bill (Leya), her beloved grandchildren Dominique and Amelia, and many other family and friends.

A viewing will take place at Bonney – Watson on the afternoon of Monday the January 30th from 2-5.  Her Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday January 31st at Christ the King Parish in Seattle, WA at 11 AM.  The Mass will be preceded by the Holy Rosary at 10:30 AM.  A reception will follow in the Fitzgerald Room at Christ the King.  Her body will be laid to rest at Holyrood Cemetery in Lake Forest Park, WA later that afternoon.  Bonney – Watson Funeral Home in Seattle is handling all of the arrangements for the family.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Northwest Hospital who fought hard to save Carol’s life.

Her love of God, her love of her family, and her incredible spirit are what we think of when we think of Carol Brooking.  She will be missed and her exit leaves a hole in our hearts although we all also hope to live and die so well.

Please pray for the repose of her soul.

Dear family,

I am very sorry for the loss of your loved one and hope to

offer some comfort.

Jehovah God never intended originally for mankind to die

and very soon will end all sickness and death(Revelation

21:,4)He will also restore dead loved ones to earth as was demonstrated by Jesus Christ in the past.( John 11: 38-44)

May you find encouragement in these words.

Sincerely, Y. Sims
