Vera Lee Blake

Aug 23, 1935 – Dec 24, 2017

Vera Lee (Looney) Blake passed away peacefully on December 24th, Christmas Eve Day. She was 82. Vera was born in Nunley, AR (Polk County) on August 23, 1935, the daughter of Leeander Calvin Looney and Eunice Vesta (Cooper) Looney. She was raised on a farm and learned to milk cows. She lost her mother at a very young age, 9, and learned to be a loving caregiver to her bothers as she helped raise them and work around the house to help her father. In her young teens her family moved from Arkansas to Northern California, where she eventually went to college and graduated at San Jose State. Shortly after graduation, she met and, married her sweetheart, Francis Eugene Blake, “Sweeter”, on Thanksgiving, November 27, 1958, in Houston, TX. After Francis graduated college, they moved to Boston, MA, until Boeing picked him up 6 months later, and they landed in Seattle, WA in the early 60’s. Vera worked for Boeing for a time, pulling blueprints for Engineering and other administrative duties. Both Francis and Vera adopted two children, a son, Daniel, and daughter, Janice, in the mid 60’s, and Vera took some time off to raise her children, and worked part time as a Tax Accountant for several years. When her children were in Junior High at Seattle Christian School, Vera started volunteering at the school. She soon became one of the staff members, and for several years she managed class schedules for the high school students, and sometimes was a substitute teacher. She truly loved her job at SCS and spent a lot of time going to all the high school basketball games and getting to know the many students. When she finally retired, she and Francis spent a lot of time traveling all over Europe, the Middle East, and of course Hawaii. She and Francis are devout Christians and have spent many years going to church, donating and helping others in need. She was very much a giving spirit and spent a lot of time in prayer for others. Vera also loved the performing arts, and would spend many afternoons and evenings with her very best friends going to plays and shows. Loving Mother, devoted wife, she is survived by her husband of 59 years, Francis Eugene Blake, her son, Daniel Blake and friend Susana Gonzales, her daughter, Janice Plattner and Son-In-Law, Gary Plattner, her grandson Ken Reynolds, and granddaughters, Jessi Blake, Holly Reynolds, and Jenna Blake, as well as one Brother, Jerry “Jake” Looney, three Sister-In-Laws, Louis Looney, Era Looney, and Donna Looney, one Brother-In-Law, Clifford Blake, and several nieces and nephews. She will be missed dearly by her many friends and family, including those near and dear to her, she considered “family”. She is in heaven surrounded by her bothers, and her very dear friends, who have gone before her.
