SHIRLEY PANNELL

Shirley Pannell, 85, died peacefully on February 27, 2014 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho after an extended illness.  Shirley was born July 21, 1928, in Seattle, Washington, the daughter of John and Esther Mulholland.

Shirley graduated from Holy Angels Academy in 1946 and attended Griffin Business College before finding her calling as a portrait photographer.

In 1949, Shirley married the love of her life, Johnny Pannell.  Shirley was all about family and chose to be a working mom to give their three children the best of everything.  She managed portrait studios in both Rhodes and The Bon Marche for many years in downtown Seattle.  After her husband Johnny passed in 1973 at the age of 47, Shirley found herself alone with three grown children.  She was lucky to find love again a few years later with her dear friend, Richard.  They were soul mates for over 30 years until his passing in 2011.

Shirley is survived by her brother Robert (wife Ella); her sister-in-law Rosie (widow of her late brother Jack); her three children, Gary Pannell (wife Jan Hutton), Shelley Earlywine (husband Allen) and Leslie Stockdale (husband Wayne); three grandchildren, Jason Pannell (wife Brianna), Courtney Earlywine, and Chelsey Earlywine; two step grandchildren, Jesse Stockdale (wife BreAnna) and Jared Stockdale (wife Alix); two great grandchildren, Nakiah and Tovi Joi Pannell; and three step great grandchildren, Stella, JJ and Lexi Stockdale. Shirley was also loved and respected by many nieces, nephews; other relatives, dear friends, and her wonderful Magnolia neighbors.

She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt and never a day went by that her family didn’t know she loved them.  She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

Shirley was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Seattle for over 50 years.  Viewing will start at 10:00 am on Friday, 3/7/2014 with the funeral mass following at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Parish.  Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle.

Shirley’s family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff and special friends watching over mom during the final months of her life.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial donations be sent in her name to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way Hayden, ID 83835, or The American Cancer Society.

Though I only knew Shirley in the last 5 months as her Hospice of North Idaho spiritual care person, I am blessed to have spent time with her and her family members. Sharing stories, talking of Catholic church and school memories, singing songs and praying together with her was pure pleasure.

May she rest now in peace and may that same peace from above be upon Leslie, Gary, Shelley and all family and friends who mourn her passing.

I have such fond memories of Shirley and the great care she took of all of Leslie and Shelley’s many friends. She commemorated all of our milestones in life through photos as if we were her own children. Thanks for everything Shirley, and thanks to Gary, Shelley and Leslie for sharing your mom with so many of us.

To Leslie and all the Pannell family, just wanted to say I read about your Mom in the paper and am so sorry. I remember that you were all very close. It’s hard to lose a mom. Take care.

Best Wishes
