Obituary

Madeline Dorothy Flink

Magdalena (Madeline) Volk was born in Fillmore, North Dakota on October 1, 1915 to John and Agnes (Gisi) Volk.  She passed April 2, 2014 at the age of 98.  She had 5 siblings, Frank (Rose), Frances, Elizabeth (Ernest), James, and Benjamin (Mary) and moved “out West” to Washington with her husband, Ray Flink, in 1934.

Madeline had lifelong joy for little children, baking, education and the Catholic Church.  She was a member of the Homemaker’s Club, PTA, White River/East Hill Grange, and the Altar Society.  She had a particular love for outdoors, Northwest areas, and Kenai/Cook Inlet, Alaska.  Madeline was a feisty progressive woman with a passion for writing and the written word who enjoyed talk radio, gardening, hunting, fishing and camping.

Mother to David Leroy, John Ray (deceased), Jeanette Marie (Liz), Robert James, Stephen Raphael, and Rodney Paul.  Survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and extended family and friends.  She leaves one brother Ben Volk of Arkansas.

Thank you Ruthaven in Covington for her years of special care and support.

With mixed sadness and joy our family announces the life celebration times and places for our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

We are not able to be with you on this sorrowful day.

But our mind’s and our heart’s will be with all of you. We pray for Aunt Mac resting in peace.

We love you very much

Madeline was a woman who endured a lot in her life and withstood it with as much grace as she could find. Glad she was part of my life for a short while.

To Aunt Mac’s children, my cousins: I cannot be there but know I share your fond memories and your sorrow. Aunt Mac was very good to me during my childhood, my first letter in the mail, every birthday, Christmas and Valentine’s Day I received a card. She made me feel special. When we visited she taught me to pull carrots, punch down bread-dough, look under a chicken for eggs and how to keep the “monster-dog” under the porch from biting me. She gave me responsibilities, “play with Johnny in the yard and don’t let him eat rocks”, and the most difficult, “go find that David for me!” She slipped gently into my heart and will always be there.
