May 30, 1953 – September 25, 2026

Charles Edwin Griggs, known to his family and friends as Chuck, passed away on the evening of September 25, 2026, in Renton, Washington, at the age of 73.

Chuck was born on May 30, 1953, in Pomeroy, Washington, to Clay Edwin Griggs and Winifred “Winnie” Wilson. For 25 years he worked as a machinist for the Boeing Company, where he was a proud member of the machinists union and took great pride in the skill and precision of his craft.

Above all, Chuck was a devoted husband. He and his beloved wife, Sherry, shared 51 years of marriage and made their home in Kent, Washington, and their partnership was the center of his life. He was a faithful member of Covington Foursquare Church, where his faith and fellowship meant a great deal to him.

Chuck had a generous heart for service. He volunteered as an EMT with the local fire department, answering the call to help neighbors in their most difficult moments. He also gave his time to a local wolf sanctuary, caring for animals that needed protection and a safe place to live.

In his free time, Chuck loved to fish, enjoyed the open road on his motorcycle, liked shooting firearms, and was a licensed ham radio operator who valued the connections he made over the airwaves. He also studied karate, earning a brown belt through years of dedication and discipline.

Chuck and Sherry shared a deep love of dogs and welcomed five into their home over the years. The last of them, Pipsqueak, held a special place in their hearts and served faithfully as Chuck’s service dog and constant companion.

One of Chuck and Sherry’s favorite places to visit was Leavenworth, Washington, and they always looked forward to spending the Christmas holidays there with family.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sherry B. Griggs; his sister, Jackie Gregg Wright; his sister, Marty Turner, and her husband, Bud; his niece, Stacey Garton, and her husband, Glen; his nephew, Jeremy Tangen, and his wife, Hollie; his nephew, Sean Tangen, and his wife, Erin; and many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay Edwin Griggs and Winifred “Winnie” Wilson; his sister, Bobbie Tangen; and his cherished dogs, including his faithful service dog, Pipsqueak.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Josh Simon of Covington Foursquare Church, will take place on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 12:30 p.m., followed by graveside services at 2:00 p.m. All services will be held at Bonney Watson Funeral Home at Washington Memorial Park, 16445 International Blvd., SeaTac, Washington 98188. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Covington.
