Charles Edward Sims, of Seattle, Washington, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the age of 82. He was born on November 6, 1943, in Denver, Colorado, to William and Sadie Sims.
Charles received his education in the Denver Public Schools, attending Cole Junior High School and graduating from Manual High School in 1962. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Science from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado, and later received a Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Charles was deeply devoted to his two girls – Myra, his loving wife of 44 years, and his cherished daughter, Amber. He was a proud and loving Grandpapa to Aaliyah, and an awesome son and brother-in-law. Professionally, Charles was an accomplished Senior Human Resources leader with more than 30 years of experience across public and private sectors, higher education, healthcare, and for-profit organizations. His career included service at Bellevue College, Seattle Colleges, Children’s Hospital, Group Health Cooperative, Osoro & Associates, and Drake University.
A lifelong Sports enthusiast, Charles enjoyed watching many sports, but his true passion was participation. Until illness limited him, he was a regular at the gym and loved playing golf with friends in Seattle. For many years, he was a “Golf Nomad”, traveling from state to state with close friends from Denver to play on various courses. In his younger years, Charles played varsity baseball and basketball in high school and continued playing basketball throughout college.
Charles was part of a group called “The Board”. These men met weekly to socialize, but more importantly, they came together to network and support one another professionally. During Charles’s illness, they became something more meaningful. They followed him wherever he was – whether in the hospital, a rehab facility, or his adult family home. Through it all, they were a steady presence, a source of support and friendship, and a smile in the midst of the clouds.
Charles loved visiting Saltwater State Park, where he would sit by the water and bask in the sun for hours. He cherished holiday gatherings with the Bells and enjoyed movie and dinner dates with family and friends. Known for his wonderful sense of humor, Charles remained a jokester until the very end.
Charles was a good man who loved the Lord. His faith was evident in how he lived his life and invested in uplifting others – professionally, in the community, and at home. His life reflected an abundance of good fruit “For each tree is known by its own fruit” (Luke 6:44). He was kind, generous, non-judgmental, and a trusted friend, mentor, leader, father figure, and brother to many.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sadie Sims, and his stepsister, Wilma Case.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Myra Walker-Sims; his loving daughter, Amber Sims Mowatt (Denver); his spirited granddaughter, Aaliyah Mowatt; a wonderful “family-in-law’; longtime friends Lonnie Porter, Dwight Nicholson, Tony and Andrea Johnson, and Cheryl Crawford; his second family Sam, Belinda, Cameron, and Claiborne Bell; and a host of cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Church By the Side of the Road, 3455 S. 148th Street, Tukwila, Washington, on March 14th, 2026 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ALS Association in Charles’s memory.

Although I have met Chuck only on a few occasions, his legacy of love will live on in Myra who always, always spoke so highly of Chuck in pure reverence and respect- and also Amber who always adored and cherished her daddy-I remember how she would light up when speaking of him. Myra,
My heart and prayers are with you and your family during this incredibly difficult time. I didn’t have the privilege of knowing your husband personally, but the beautiful tribute shared spoke volumes about the life he lived and the many people he touched.
Please know you’re in my thoughts, and I’m wishing you comfort, strength, and peace in the days ahead.
I worked for Charles for several years at then Children’s Hospital. He was the best boss that I have ever had. He was brilliant and patient and encouraging.
I remember him so fondly and am sad for his family. I will forever miss his warmth and humor.
I learned so much from him. And while I will forever strive to be as dignified and cool, I know he’ll always be ahead of me.
I was saddened to learn of Cousin Charles’ passing. In the times we stayed in touch over the years, I came to know him as a kind, thoughtful, and genuinely gracious man with a wonderful sense of humor. His devotion to Cousin Myra & Amber was second to none. His commitment to uplifting others—both professionally and personally—were clearly reflected in how he lived his life. Please accept my sincere condolences as you remember and celebrate a life well lived. Wishing you peace, comfort, and strength during this time of loss. Peace & Love.
Charles was my wonderful partner at the Seattle Colleges for several years. He helped solve the most challenging issues with grace, competence, and care. He provided outstanding leadership and guidance as we navigated complicated HR situations. Charles was an experienced, positive, fun, funny, and trusted colleague. In addition to his job, he served as a mentor to many employees. He was valued and appreciated at the Seattle Colleges for his expertise, but employees liked spending time with Charles because of his wit, humor, and kindness. I owe him a huge debt of gratitude!
Our deepest condolences. Will treasure our time as your neighbors. We’re so grateful for how loving and supportive he was to our family. Sending much love and warmth to you.
