Sr. Patricia was born in Tacoma, WA on August 24, 1953 to James and Renee (Bostwick) Glen. She was the 7th child of 19, and a twin, and grew up in a Catholic family that had prayer at the center of the family. As she became active in her parish, she slowly realized the spirituality within herself. She pursued her vocation in religious life and met several Sisters of the Sisters of Providence community. After this visit, she recalled, “The only thing I can tell you is I was at home.” Sister Patricia entered the Sisters of Providence community in 1975, became a Novice in 1976, received First Vows in 1978, and Final Vows in 1983.

In 1971, Sr. Patricia graduated from St. Leo High School, Tacoma, and in 1983 she received a BA from Gonzaga University in Religious Studies. She also attended conferences and continuing education workshops.

In all her ministries, Sr. Patricia attempted to honor her own spirituality while helping others honor theirs. It is the connection with people that brought her joy. Her ministries included: Parish Minister, St. Brendan Parish, Bothell, WA (1979-81); Youth Minister, St. Michael Parish, Olympia, WA (1983-86); Youth and Religious Education Director, St. Luke Parish, Seattle (1986-1988); Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) intern and Pastoral Care, Providence Portland Medical Center, Portland, OR (1988-89); Chaplain, Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, Portland (1989-92); and Director, Pastoral Care, Providence St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Yakima, WA (1992-98). In 1998 she became a staff member and later Assistant Local Superior at St. Joseph Residence, the Sisters of Providence residence in West Seattle. She also served as Mission Integration Director at Providence Mount St. Vincent, Seattle. She was always a dedicated volunteer in her religious community. Sr. Patricia remarked that “in every ministry, there’s been someone who allowed me to give the gifts that I have and who valued them.” This is a gift she treasured.

Sr. Patricia lived a life filled with compassion, positive energy and purpose. She enjoyed connecting with and helping others and enriching the lives of those she met in her ministries. Sr. Patricia loved her religious community. Because of her curious spirit, she treasured learning and sharing with other Sisters in her community. Sr. Patricia had a strong affection for her large family and friends. We thank Sr. Patricia for being an advocate for others. We will miss her.

Her parents, James and Renee Glen, and her brothers Mark Glen, Patrick Glen, Thomas Glen, Michael Glen, Joseph Glen, Barry Glen and Richard Glen preceded her in death. She is survived by her sisters Barbara Glen Newlin, Terry Glen Walker, Sue Glen, Paula Glen, Elaine Rush Glen, Nancy Glen, Gloria (Tom) Glen Otten, Amy (Ed) Glen Gookin, Julia Glen, Caroline Glen and Charlotte Glen, and her brothers James (Beanie) Glen and William Glen, her extended family, and her religious community.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Sisters of Providence Retirement Fund, 1801 Lind Avenue SW, M1-C, Renton, WA 98057-9016. To view Sr. Patricia’s obituary and picture, and to sign her memory book, please visit the website for Bonney-Watson Funeral Home at www.bonneywatson.com.

I will always be grateful to St. Patricia for helping me get my mom into Mt. St. Vincent in a moment of crisis for our family. Mom spent 17 years there under their loving care. I imagine there are hundreds of other stories like that about her. Rest in peace Sister!
