Rick Kunimitsu Abe

Rick Kuni Abe, 65, of Seattle, Washington, passed away on November 15, 2015 peacefully in his sleep with a harmonious smile.

Kuni was born in Oita, Japan on October 29, 1950. Moved to Seattle 3 years later alongside his courageous Mother and Father Toshiko and Toshio who wanted the best life for their children in the U.S.

Kuni and his two brothers Tony (Karen) and Jimmy (Kim) grew up in the Seattle area (Beacon Hill). He went to Cleveland High School and went on to follow his passion in the dental field. Continued his education at South Seattle Dental tech school. Kuni stood out in his class and Dr. Ralph Brooks saw something special in him. He knew Kuni was a very hardworking, dedicated, loyal man and gave him an opportunity to open his own business. Kuni did just that, and ran a very successful and respected dental lab (Harmony Dental Lab) for over 40 years.

Kuni met his beautiful wife Wendy in 1972 through friends and adored her as they danced the nights away on Pier 70 almost every weekend when younger. Devoted to each other for 43 warm hearted years.

He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his four children, Ryan (Jehna), Camille, Nick and Greg. His sons keeping the legacy alive by running the business. Learning from only but the best their father with perfection and integrity.

Kuni not only had the best work ethic but always made time for his favorite hobbies including; skiing, wind surfing, tennis, mushroom hunting, clam digging & camping. Family was very important to Kuni and one of his favorite family vacation spots was Maui. Many very wonderful memories were made in the Hawaiian Islands.

Kuni also adored his grandchildren and always making time to watch Jace play tee ball, Alivia's gymnastics and spending time watching Wraylyn smiling away.

Rick Kuni Abe will always be treasured, truly missed and never forgotten. Always remembered for being our hero, father, husband, brother, son, friend and our inspiration.

Our condolences to the entire Abe family. Rick started working as my lab technician in 1977 while he was still being trained by Dr. Ralph Brooke. He always did such a wonderful job on his crowns and bridges- It made me a better dentist in the eyes of my patients. I knew that it was really Rick's work that made the difference! We were the same age, and I worried that he would retire before me. This, I was afraid, would result in my dental work not being up to Rick's standards. Unfortunately Rick's health did force him to retire before me; however, I was pleasantly surprised to find that his son Ryan continued to provide the highest of quality work. We are sorry that we will be unable to attend Rick's "Celebration" on November 29th due to being out of town. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Abe family. Rick we will miss your smile.

Dear Abe Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you journey this new road. Know Kuni is safe and at peace. He now watches over us, and helps guide us. We are better for knowing him and lucky to have had him in our lives.

For me personally, I am thankful, for without him would be no Ryan. Ryan has replicated his father in many ways and definitely represents much of which his father has taught.

Kuni knew many would watch over, guide and care for his family in his absence. And so now he can truly rest in peace~ Gail Korakis
