Shirley Joan Batchelor obituary image 1

Beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother,  and great great grandmother lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, January 10th, 2016 at 7:22 am. She fought the good fight, affectionately known as a tough Norwegian.

Loved by everyone who came accross her path, and she unconditionally loved many in return. She was often refered as "Mom" by many. You couldn't ask for a better wife, sister, mother, grandmother,  great grandmother, great great grandmother,  and true friend. She will be missed dearly.

Our hearts are saddened and breaking, wishing we could keep such a wonderful person with us forever. But we are greatful that she is in the comforting arms of the Lord, and those that went before her. As hard as it is to have her taken from us,  we find peace knowing that she is no longer in pain.

Survived by her son; W Kevin Batchelor, daughters; Lindy Armand,  Patty Hemmen and her huband Dave, brother; Paul Dybdahl and his wife Sally, grandchildren; Robbie Batchelor, Ashley Batchelor and her husband Kevin, Glorie Johnson, Marty Shaughnessy and his wife Patty, great grandchildren; Jori Benson and her husband Zack, Steven Johnson, Shelbi Grant, Brandon Shaughnessy and his wife Jessica, Mary Kate Bunce and her husband Dakota, Sierra Howe, Cheyanne Howe, and Omry Howe, great great grandchildren;  Ava Mae Howe, Taelynn Benson, Diclan Benson, Patrick Shaughnessy,  Hunter Shaughnessy, and Carson Shaughnessy.  Preceded in death by her loving huband; Walt Batchelor, grandson; Lonnie Howe, and her parents;  Ed and Elena Kirchhof.

I am so sad to read of the passing of such a funny, sweet woman. I met Shirley when she worked with my Mom Ruth at Frederick & Nelson. I was in high school we would go down to the store for my Mom's lunch breaks and a couple of times Shirley would join us. We had such a fun time listening to her stories, especially Kevin. I was happy my Mom was there for her when you suddenly lost Walt all those years ago. Rest in peace sweet lady.

Condolences to Kevin and the rest of the extended family.

To the Batchelor family, we grew to know Shirley thru Walt. Both Shirley and Walt became 2nd set of parents to many of us here at VMC. Knowing Shirley was like knowing someone for your whole life, she gave so much to each and everyone she came in contact with, thank you Shirly for all that you gave to us. As I go to work several days a week at the airport I always give Walt a hello as I pass by Washington Memorial, I will know also give a big hello to Shirley as well, thank you for giving so much of yourselves to everyone you knew.
