Gladys Charlotte Sorbo obituary image 1

 Gladys Charlotte Sorbo

Our beloved mother was born August 31, 1922 and passed away June 11, 2018 at age 95. She is survived by daughters Betty Ann (Steve) Robinson, Gloria Weaver, granddaughters Claire and Rebekka Weaver, sister Shirley (Arnold) Albrecht of Bismarck, ND, sisters-in-law Arlene Block of Hawaii and Marcia Sorbo of Portland, OR, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Boyd, her brothers Arthur (Bunny) and Roy (Larraine) Johnson.

Gladys was born in Mandan, ND to Axel and Agny Johnson, formerly of Norway. She grew up in North Dakota, but moved at an early age to live with relatives in Minneapolis to attend school and eventually to Tacoma with relatives where she graduated from Stadium High School. Gladys moved to Seattle and attended business college and worked for the federal government during the war years before working in bookkeeping for Peterson Beauty Supply in Seattle. She lived with her aunt in Ballard and it was during this time that she met the love of her life and future husband Boyd Sorbo. They were married in August of 1956 and lived in Seattle from 1956 to 2010 when they moved in with Betty Ann and Steve. Boyd passed away in 2010, and Gladys continued to live in Shoreline until her passing. She was a member of Maple Leaf Lutheran Church and also the Leif Erickson Lodge in Ballard.

Gladys worked for families for many years. These were second families to her and she loved to keep in contact with them and other neighbors and friends throughout the years. Gladys was a friend to many. We will always remember her kind spirit, positive and helpful attitude, sunny disposition and her concern and love for family and friends. Her parting words for the family were to be sure to thank everyone for everything and to tell them all goodbye.

A graveside service & interment will be held at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery (enter at the 115th NE gate, north side by NW Hospital) on Thursday, June 21st at 2:00 PM, followed by a reception at the Evergreen Washelli Celebration Hall, 11111 Aurora Ave. N., Seattle.

Remembrances may be made in Gladys’ name to Maple Leaf Lutheran Church, Leif Erickson Lodge or charity of your choice. If you are unable to attend, we ask that you keep Gladys and her family in your thoughts.

Dear Gladys.

Very happy to have met you as well as in My home in Norway and in your home in Seattle. Thank you for being so nice to my father when he lost his beloved wife, my mother. You were so easy for him to come in contact with because you spoke Norwegian. Now we wish rest in pease.

Best regards to the family from.

Of all the people I have known in my life, Gladys was one of my favorites - she was so much fun! Gladys laughed and smiled a lot as she brought out the best in people. She was both selfless and authentic. Gladys always was cheerful, appreciative, and sincere. She loved people and people loved her. Gladys was blessed to enjoy a long and loving marriage with her dear husband, Boyd. Her family is one of the closest families I have known in my life. The respect this family shows for each other is indeed wonderful. God bless each one of you and, of course, dear Gladys, who will be in my heart always.
