Obituary

Sidney Roger Starr passed away peacefully on Dec. 5, 2018. He was 87 and the last of his siblings to pass. In 1948 when Sid was 17 he enlisted in the US Army and served in the occupation forces in Germany as Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1952.

After returning home he went to trade school to learn the sheet metal trade. He spent his entire working career as a Union Local 66 sheet metal worker and in 2017 was recognized by the Union for 60 years of Continuous Good Standing Service.

Sid married his soul mate, Mary Jane Blakesley, on May 25, 1956, and together they enjoyed 57 years of marriage until she passed away in 2013. After his wife retired, they moved to Laughlin, NV, then again to Bullhead City, AZ. They enjoyed the warm weather, desert hills, sunrises and sunsets and many new friends. Sid was a gracious host and was always ready and willing to lend a helpful hand to anyone that asked. He enjoyed tinkering around in the garage, building and fixing things. He and his wife traveled and vacationed with friends and family. Hawaii was a favorite destination, and their most memorable trips were to Israel and America Samoa.

Sidney is survived by his three children, James C. Starr, Carrie A. Leaf (Marvin) and John M. Starr (Margaret); eight grandchildren, Carolyn Starr (William Reding), Ellen Duncan (Nathan), Gordon Starr (Katrina), Lyra Starr, Aubrey Jane Starr; Alex Leaf; Alicia Leyva (Hector), and John Taylor Starr; and six great grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed by his children, extended family and all those who knew and loved him.

Our Dad was a great man, honest, hardworking and friendly. He was a great host and the lake property were we lived for a number of years. In the summertime we never locked the door and everyone was always welcome. He taught us to "always do what's right no matter what" And instilled in us to do a good job at what every you do and do your best because that all anyone can ask of you. We love you Dad and you will be deeply missed by all who knew you.
