Gilbert Hill Smith Jr

Gilbert Hill Smith Jr passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones on November 30, 2015.

He was born November 29, 1955 in Spokane Washington to Gilbert Hill Smith Senior and Joan Allen.  He was the third child of five siblings.

As a child, Gilbert lived in Spain for three years later to return to the United States where he lived in Spokane Washington and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.  After playing a season of college football he moved to Seattle where he obtained employment as a lifeguard at the Seattle Tennis Club. He then became a pool manager for the City of Seattle where he worked for 7 years and during this time he met and married Lorraine Phillips and had two children, Ramla and Gilbert III,

In 1982, Gilbert began his career as a Port of Seattle Firefighter where he lived, loved and served for 31 years and built a brotherhood with his fellow firefighters that will last a lifetime.

He married Cheryl Jackson in 2004 where he acquired two additional children, Fortune and Elijah.

Gilbert retired from the Port of Seattle in 2013.

His interests were spending time with his family and grandchildren, playing practical jokes on friends, fishing, classic muscle cars, motorcycles, golf and barbequing with friends just to name a few.

Gilbert was very outgoing and his smile was infectious. He touched a lot of people because of his kindness and open heart to those he came across. Gilbert was very loyal and was there for those who needed help. He also was a protector of his family and friends and fought to the very end.

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Cheryl, children, Ramla Carter (Sahar), Gilbert III (Sharmu), Fortune and Elijah. Grandchildren, Jourdan, Dajean, Amiyah, Aleah, Savon, Jamila, Ajhani and Gabriel. Also, his father, Gilbert Sr, sisters, Bonnie Gaye Horton, Renee Dennard (Quinton), Beverly Anderson and one brother, Bobby Chalk Jr (Ena) and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Joan Allen Chalk.

Services will be held at the Seatac Bonney Watson Washington Memorial on Dec. 10th at 11 AM
