Ruthie Belle McGregor

March 3, 1925 - June 25, 2014

Obituary

Ruthie Belle Hardman was born March 3, 1925 in Haughton, Louisiana to Frank Hardman and Inez Brewer. Ruthie was the only child born to this union. Her father preceded her in death when Ruthie was very young. She was raised by her mother and step father, Prince Taylor. Her mother and step-father preceded her in death in 1981 and 1991 respectively.

Ruthie accepted Christ at an early age and truly loved the Lord. As a young girl, Ruthie attended Sunday school and became secretary of her Sunday school. Some Sundays young Ruthie and the superintendent of the Sunday school would be the only persons in attendance for Sunday school.

Ruthie attended high school in Shreveport, Louisiana and graduated in 1943. In 1944 the family moved to Seattle, Washington. Three days later she became an employee of the Boeing Company for a short time.  She also attended Edison Technical School.

In December 1947 Ruthie married her “home town” sweetheart, John Willie Johnson in San Francisco, California. From this union a son, John Wesley was born in Seattle. Sometime after the birth of John, Ruthie worked at the naval hospital and Overall Laundry.

In November 1954 Ruthie married Lewis McGregor. From this union 3 daughters were born; Inez Renee, Valerie Lynn, and Dana Lewis. Ruthie stayed home to raise her children for several years. She and Lewis raised their children to be honest, educated, hard workers, and self-respecting individuals. And they lead by example. They provided a good life for their children as well as a solid Christian foundation. Ruthie was a long time active member of Curry Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church until her health prevented her from going.

Ruthie returned to the work force in the mid 1960’s working at Doctor’s hospital and again with the Boeing Company where she worked until the young age of 70 and retired in 1995.

Ruthie was a very kind, sweet, loving wife and mother, who had no problem telling you what was on her mind. She was a true friend who had a great sense of humor. Ruthie was humble and sacrificed a great deal for her family whom she loved dearly.  We will truly miss her and her beautiful spirit and gorgeous smile. Her bright light graced us for 89 years here on earth. Now she is shining her bright light with God, our heavenly Father, and her loved ones who have gone home before her. Ruthie’s husband Lewis preceded her in death in 1984.

She leaves to mourn her passing; son John Johnson; daughters Inez Magalona (Enrique), Valerie McGregor, and Dana McGregor (Greg); 9 grandchildren:  Ericka Pollard (Trent), Erin Russo (Andrew), David Jackson, Keyunda Wilson (Sean), Bryant Jackson (Danae), Kanisha Alexander, Cheri Moore, Francene Faison, and Shayla Robinson; 9 great grandchildren; her extended family children( and you know who you are); care givers Wilma Gayden and Sylvia Watunu; and a host of cousins and friends.

Though we only met a few times during Christmas and Thanksgiving celebrations, when Kanisha and I were teenagers, I’m thankful for those times. I’m gracious of the love and strength that you instilled in my best friend Kanisha and the rest of your family. Whom are all in my thoughts and prayers during this time of loss and celebration of a beautiful life.

Thank you for bringing light into this world. May you rest in piece and be greeted at the heavenly gates by God and welcomed in by my Nanny and Grandpa Red. Though we only met a few brief moments I loved you for all the love you shared with my dear friend, your grand daughter, Kanisha Mahogany Alexander.

We are so sorry for your loss…

Mom-

You can only have one mother

Patient kind and true;

No other friend in all the world,

Will be the same to you.

When other friends forsake you.

To mother you will return,

For all her loving kindness,

She asks nothing in return.

As we look upon her picture,

Sweet memories we recall,

Of a face so full of sunshine,

And a smile for one and all.

Sweet Jesus, take this message,

To our dear mother up above;

Tell her how we miss her,

And give her all our love.

I knew Ruthie from working with her at Boeing in Renton. She was a very sweet woman, and worked hard. She was good friends and partners with Verla Beeler when I met Ruthie. Verla told me of some of their adventures at work, all very innocent, but funny! Verla passed on about 5 years ago at 91, so I know they are catching up in Heaven.

My sincerest condolences the family and close friends.

Mommy, I miss you so much. There is a part of me that is gone. Whatever I do I cannot fill the void. It just doesn’t feel right that you are not here with us. But what comfort’s me is the fact that you are with God and I know you are in good hands.

Mommy you will always be in my heart, along with all the sweet memories. Rest in peace..I love you Mommy.!
