Eric Newton

February 22, 1968 - January 15, 2026

Sunrise – February 22, 1968 Sunset – January 15, 2026

Moses Eric Newton, affectionately known to many as Eric and Figgy, was born on February 22, 1968, to Moses and Alberta B. Ross Newton in San Pedro, California.

Raised in Washington State, Eric attended St. Paul School and West Seattle and Franklin High Schools.

From an early age, Eric possessed an effortless way of drawing people in with his infectious laughter, quick wit, and gift for storytelling. Eric had passions that reflected his spirit: cars, fishing, bowling, and a love for dolphins. He found peace near water, joy in friendly competition, and freedom in movement and motion.

Later in life, Eric dedicated himself to roles connected to the City of Seattle and King County, spaces where his humor and ability to connect with people shone as brightly as everywhere else.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Terrell Jackson, Ladell Newton, Chel’le Leonard, Julian Newton, Kwajalein Newton, Jordon Newton, and Myilo Newton. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, his sister Sandra L. Newton, niece Alexis Pipkin (Mariceo Pipkin), partner Sauncy Hurst, and a multitude of relatives and friends.

Moses Eric Newton leaves behind a legacy of laughter and connection, a reminder that a life well lived is measured not only in years or accolades, but also in the hearts touched, smiles shared, and stories that live on. Above all, Eric will be remembered for how he made people feel. His laughter was unmistakable, his jokes perfectly timed, and his stories unforgettable. He had the rare gift of making even ordinary moments feel special, and his presence turned gatherings into memories

Our nephew, Eric had a very special God-given gift of showing love and caring which he was born with and never out-grew into and throughout his manhood. This special selfless gift made you feel he was listening, hearing and feeling you in how he beautifully expressed himself.

As his Uncle Willie (Eric’s mom, Alberta’s brother) and Aunt Pauline (which Eric ALWAYS addressed us as!), Eric’s passing has left a huge hole in our and our children’s lives (Eric’s cousins, Steve, Stacy, Ronda, Phil & Ken) as well as our entire family.

We will miss Eric’s calls to check on our physical and mental wellbeing and sometimes just to share family news or to just pick our brains with his questions and concerns. He always ended his calls with “Luv you”!

After our moving from Seattle to Texas in 1991, Eric dug deeply into our Texas lifestyle by often driving the 2,245 one-way miles in his famous Suburban!

To express our gratitude and thankfulness for Eric being a part of our lives we would like to honor his legacy with the posthumous GREATEST LOVING SON, BROTHER, FATHER, UNCLE, COUSIN, NEPHEW & FRIEND AWARD!

Eric lived Biblical verse, John 13:34, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another”.

TO BE LOVED BY ERIC “MOSEY” FIG-NEWTON Is TO BE TRULY LOVED!! YOU’LL NEVER GET OVER IT!!

It’s hard to put into words what Eric meant to me and my family. He was a kind person who could light up a room with just his presence and of course his sense of humor. He lived with passion that inspired everyone, and though he left us too soon, he left behind his spirit of joy and strength. I will never forget how he helped and made himself available during one of the most difficult times of my life of burying my mom. Anything I needed he never hesitated to do. I can just imagine the joy of him seeing our loved ones in Heaven and I know they welcomed him with open arms. Eric, your spirit will forever live on. Until we see each other again. I love you and Rest in Paradise. Your lil sis, Bernita!

MEN, I’m still trying to process the fact that I won’t be receiving any more harassing (in a good way) calls from you☹️. We met in like 94-95 and been tight er’since. The last time we talked we reminisced about the days on Renton Ave with Doobie (RIP) Big B, the duck, that marble table, and a bunch of other stuff🤣. Even tho we got on each others last nerve we held a special place in each others hearts. I love u Newton and will definitely miss you…Ola Mae (IYKYK🥰)

To Sandy & the Newton family on behalf of the Hunter family, We send you condolences, prayers and love, as you mourn the loss of Eric. I was deeply saddened to learn of his transition. It has been some time since I’d seen Eric, however, I will never forget his beautiful spirit and that infectious smile.
