Milford Milton Bemis

January 14, 1921 - December 3, 2003

Milford Milton Bemis, 82, died on Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Floyd Hall of Kirkland, Washington after a nearly three-year hard fought battle with colon cancer. He was born to Julian LeRoy and Hattie Ethel Cook Bemis on January 14, 1921 in Palermo, North Dakota. The family moved to Seattle, Washington in 1924 where he lived until 1980 when he bought his home in Stanwood, Washington. Milford is survived by his sister, Vera Hall Floyd of Kirkland, two sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Merle, Albert, Verne and Russell. After graduating from West Seattle High School in 1940, Milford attended the University of Washington from which he graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He retired as an Associate Engineer from Seattle City Light after 31 years of service. Our dear brother, brother-in-law and uncle was a constant source of loving care and support through the ups and downs of our close family life. He will be remembered by us all for his sense of humor, love of family get-togethers, fishing, camping, travel, bowling and singing. He was a dedicated U of W Husky fan. For the past 15 years Mil enjoyed his computer and working on research for our family tree. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2003 at 12:30 PM at BONNEY-WATSON Washington Memorial, 16445 International Blvd., SeaTac, WA 206 242-1787. Memorials may be made to Swedish Cancer Institute, Clinical Research, 1221 Madison St., Seattle, WA 98104.

To the family of Mil Bemis: It is with great sadness that I have learned of the passing of our dear cousin. Mil was very supportive to me in learning about our family history. He will be greatly missed.

I was saddened to learn of Mil’s death. I got to know my second cousin after moving back to the NW. He stimulated an interest in family history that continues. Mil was a very special person and I will miss him very much. Our condolences to the family.

I am embarrassed to have missed today’s service. I planned to attend, but simply forgot in the confusion of dealing with three downed trees from the recent storm.
