Hinako Hovhaness

Obituary

Hinako Hovhaness, born Hinako Fujihara, passed away at 2:30 AM on December 22, 2022 in SeaTac Washington. She was born on March 28, 1932 in Osaka Japan to Katsuji and Jun Fujihara.

Hinako was known for her beautiful coloratura soprano voice. She was a church soloist, performed in numerous concerts, and sang in the Seattle Opera auxiliary chorus.

She was also known for her marriage to and promotion of classical contemporary composer Alan Hovhaness.

Vivacious and ever positively focused, she is remembered with fond admiration and love.

Hinako is survived by her sister Sunako Hata of Tokyo Japan and her 3 children William Holst of Oklahoma, and Joni Holst, and June Rubens, both of Washington State.
