I met Marlene over 15 years ago when her daughter Liz and I were partners in the King County Sheriffs Office. We would often stop by “mom and dads” while on patrol and Marlene was always so warm and inviting to us. If she didn’t have something on the stove cooking she would always want to feed us and make sure nobody ever left her house hungry.

Marlene and I shared many laughs each time we saw each other. If I arrived to the Avent home in a bad mood, it was always changed when I left! Marlene and I would tease each other constantly about everything from her love for country music artists to her poodles. I often think about her and miss being in touch with Liz and the family.

I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer just before Christmas in 2003. We were best friends and shared a closeness like Liz and Marlene did. The pain of the loss will get better with time but you will think of her daily, as you should.

I would like to meet up soon and go to lunch with you Liz and update happenings in our lives. You can call me at home at 253-941-1444 or at work anytime at 206-248-2956. Please do so, we have lots of catching up to do and I miss you!

I wish the entire Avent family best wishes.

Dear Bill and family,

Nancy I have nothing but fond memories of your mom. Remember the year you got the ecylopedias for Christmas! What a parent!!! My mom always remembered the haircut I let you give me in 7th grade. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I know that my husband, mom and dad were right there to greet her at Heaven’s gate.

Marlene was such a vibrant woman. She had a lot of charm & we have missed her for several years. Best of luck to her devoted partner, Bill, in the years ahead. Her three daughters are wonderful for looking after their parents. Hats off to them.Rest in peace, Marlene. Your neighbors, Herb & Myrna Swanson.

I will miss you Marlene! So much to say but little space to say it in. You were a wonderful friend and mother in law to me. Take care and rest easy. We all love you.

Mom, I just miss you, and our late night talks, so much. I miss your outrageous sense of humor, your warmth, and your ability to make everything better. No matter how bad , or bleak things were for me, all you had to say was , “well honey”, and you would take care of everything” You, are the reason, I am a good mother. You showed me the beauty, and the pain, of a love song. How music could heal your heart, make you fall in love, and heal the soul. Mom, you were everything, to me.I miss your mothering, I miss your smile, and your laugh, and your generous spirit. Not a night goes by, that I don’t expect to hear my phone ring, so we can wind up the day. I just miss you Mom. I will see you again, and we will laugh, and everything wil be right in the world again. Hold on to Dad , hold on to each other.
