A grandmother, mother, and wife, Sophia played many roles throughout her remarkable life. She was born and raised in a small mountain village in Miaoli, Taiwan, one of eight siblings. During high school, she was known as an exceptional athlete, excelling in both basketball and track. After graduation, Sophia played semi-professional basketball and carried her passion for sports into married life. She enjoyed tennis, hiking, and swimming, and eventually became an accomplished golfer. She especially loved playing golf with her husband, grandson, and her friends.
Sophia led an active and vibrant life. She took her family on road trips and outdoor adventures, always staying energetic and engaged. She was known for helping others, her strong sense of righteousness, and leaving a lasting impression on everyone around her.
In her free time, Sophia continually sought to learn new skills and embrace new environments. She took baking classes, learned authentic Taiwanese cooking, and explored flower arranging and craftsmanship.
In 1994, Sophia moved from Taiwan to Seattle, helping her family build a new life and forming many meaningful friendships along the way. She was an independent woman: while her husband remained in Taiwan to pursue his business, she raised their children single-handedly in the United States, ensuring they received all the love and support she could give. Like a true superwoman, she not only cared for her children but also traveled frequently to Taiwan to accompany her husband.
Sophia’s life was defined not only by what she achieved, but by the love she gave so freely. She was strong, independent, and endlessly devoted to her family, always putting others before herself. Whether she was cheering her children on through life, or preparing a meal that brought everyone together, Sophia made the ordinary moments feel extraordinary.
She carried her kindness like a quiet strength, and her courage like a steady light—guiding her family through every season of life. We will miss her deeply, but we are forever grateful to have been loved by her. And in that love, Sophia will always be with us.
