Death Certificates
Your Bonney-Watson funeral director will help you determine the number of copies of the death certificate that you will need and will order them for you.
If you need additional copies later, you may order certified copies of the death certificate from the local county Health Department. You may do this only after the original death certificate has been filled out by your funeral director, signed by the attending physician and filed with the county vital records office.
Certified death certificates can be obtained from King County for anyone who died within Seattle city limits (all years) or in King County (1944 and later only). The King County site lists a number of ordering options, including in-person, mail, online, fax and telephone.
For records of deaths outside of King County, contact the Washington State Center for Health Statistics at 360-236-4300 or toll-free, 800-525-0127.
- For recent records (in the current or previous month), contact the Local Health Department where the event occurred.
- If the death occurred from July 1, 1907 to two months before the present, order the death certificate through the Center for Health Statistics.
- For records before July 1, 1907, contact the Research Office of the Washington State Archives.
