My husband, Lyle, is in a nursing rehab residence but when told of Cy’s passing said he remembered Cy as one fine pilot and a fine gentleman. As a former stewardess, I remember Cy the same way, always a fine gentleman.

Cy was one of my favorite Captains in the DC-3 and DC-4 across Montana. He was a great Check Pilot on those aircraft and when he was checking you always learned a lot. Cy and I had some wonderful DC-4 trips into Sheyma. Shemya was always a challenge and he handled it well. Cy and I became very good friends. He was my sponsor into QB’s. I’m sure that all who knew Cy will miss him.

I’ll have to check my logbook to know for sure, but I think I never flew with Cy. It would have been a seniority thing. But I knew him as a gentleman and I feel a loss as each of these pioneers takes that flight West. I am proud to have known Cy Cole.
I was lucky enough to fly with Cy early in my career in 1968. He was truly a gentleman and a good pilot. On one flight on the B707 from Seattle to Tokyo he talked to his daughter on Kodiak Island, AK, something that I never forgot. As a you second officer, he treated me great, as I’m sure he did everyone. I’ll miss him.
