Obituary
Kathleen (Kathy) Canter, born in Peoria, Illinois in 1935, passed away on August 24, 2021, she was 86 years old. Kathy grew up in Peoria and moved to Yakima, Washington when her father was hired at Hanford. The family later moved to Seattle where she graduated from Franklin High School in 1953. Kathy raised five children: Don Canter Jr (deceased), Scott Sandland (wife Gina), Yvonne Thornton, Connie Russell (husband Bob) and Cindy Hemshorn (husband Bruce). She is survived by her children, her sister Shirley Graham (husband Glenn), 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 3 nieces. Kathy retired from the Psychology/Social Services department in the Highline School District in 1985. In retirement she enjoyed traveling and wintering in Arizona. Her favorite travel adventure was her trip to Egypt. She was widowed in 2009, after 43 years of marriage to Donald Canter. That same year she purchased a condo in Lakeland Hills (Auburn, WA) to be close to family. Kathy enjoyed spending time with family, lunch and shopping with her friends, holidays, reading, cooking and occasional outings to the casino. Mother, sister, aunt, friend, grandma, great-mama, gigi, gma...she was active, vibrant, stylish, generous and sharp-witted. Her parting leaves a hole in the lives of those around her. She was well loved.
