Obituary
Moneka Jamell Staton was born on October 31, 1974 to Charlatta McClanahan and Joseph (Joe) Staton, Jr., she transitioned on November 7th after a brief illness.
Born and raised in the Central District, Moneka (Mo) fell in love with basketball playing pick-up games against her older (and much bigger) brothers, cousins, and neighborhood boys. Moneka’s athletic prowess was showcased locally at Miller Community Center, Garfield High School, and Bellevue College and nationally at Oregon State University where she graduated in 1997 with a degree in Liberal Studies.
Shortly after graduating from OSU and returning to Seattle, Moneka began a 20+ year career as a benefits and human resources professional at Milliman a Seattle based actuarial and consulting firm.
Moneka will be remembered for the pride she took in her children, her contagious sense of humor, loyalty, diligence, and the fighting spirit she had until the end.
Preceded in death by her father, Moneka is survived by her children, Maija and Jaiden Brown, long-time partner A. Dion Brown, mother, brothers Andre Cross, Jeffrey, Mario, and Keith Staton, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mo was and will remain deeply loved by the family and friends she leaves behind.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022 from 11:00am-2:00pm at Bonney-Watson located at 16445 International Blvd., SeaTac, WA 98188.
