ANNA MARIE KOVAL, SP

Age 87, a Sister of Providence for 64 years, died June 10, 2015, at St. Joseph Residence, Seattle, WA.  Vigil Service:  Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 7:00-PM and Funeral Mass:  Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 11:00-AM, both at St. Joseph Residence, 4800 37th Avenue SW, Seattle, WA.  Burial at Calvary Cemetery, Seattle, WA, follows Mass and reception.  Bonney-Watson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Anna Marie was born February 4, 1928 to Joseph Michael Koval and Rose Marie Endres.  The oldest of five children, she grew up in Staples, Minnesota.  In 1936 the family moved to Laurel, Montana, where her father worked on the Northern Pacific Railroad.  In 1938 the family would move again when her father was transferred to Missoula, Montana.   She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1946 and completed nurse’s training at St. Patrick School of Nursing in 1949. 

On July 17, 1950, Anna Marie entered the Sisters of Providence novitiate in Seattle, WA., and there professed first vows on July 19, 1952, and final vows on July 19, 1955.

In 1957 Sr. Anna Marie received a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Great Falls, Montana, and National certification as a Chaplain in 1987.

Her 30 years of ministry in nursing were in Idaho:  Providence Hospital, Wallace; in Montana: Holy Family Hospital, St. Ignatius; Columbus Hospital, Great Falls;  St. Clare Hospital, Fort Benton; St. Patrick Hospital, Missoula; and in Washington:  Sacred Heart Hospital, Spokane.  After nursing, Sr. Anna Marie was a chaplain at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula and then St. Joseph Care Center in Spokane.

She retired in 2002 to Emilie Court, Spokane; and in 2013 moved to St. Joseph Residence in Seattle, WA. 

Sr. Anna Marie is preceded in death by her parents, brother David, and sisters Mary Jane Reilly and Therese Donovan.   She is survived by her sister, Rose Marie Schaefer and husband, Wilbur, in Dayton, Ohio; brothers-in-law Richard Reilly and Dennis Donovan and ten nieces and nephews.
