Obituary
Annie Ruth Powell
July 1, 1923 – October 29, 2014
Annie Ruth Powell went home to be with the Lord early in the morning on Wednesday, October 9, 2014. She was 91 years old. Annie was born in Hawkinsville, GA to George and Ida Whitehead. She was the second to the youngest of seven children. Annie moved to Seattle via the military. She went on to have six children of her own, three daughters and three sons. She married Marshall Powell and moved to West Seattle where she lived was well known and loved.
Annie loved to cook, sew and sing. You could always count on good food at her house. She could often be heard on Sunday morning singing along with the little radio playing in the dining room window. Over the years Annie was constantly surrounded by children; whether her own grand or great-grandchildren, neighborhood kids or children from her daycare. Some of the best times were playing softball with her family. She could hit the ball but would have one of the grandchildren run the bases as she cheered them on. She loved gatherings with her family.
Ms. Powell was an entrepreneur and small business owner. She ran a custodial business as well as a community daycare. She loved unconditionally and encouraged forgiveness and love from everyone around her. You could see this most in how she cared for her family, especially her mom, sister and niece and grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed as a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend. Annie was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall H. Powell. She is survived by her children Otis Williams, Lillie Miller, Raymond Woods, Kindness Woods, Roy Woods and Mary Pualani, as well as a host of relatives and friends.
