Charles Herbert Butterfield, age 89, died peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2009 in Federal Way, WA. Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Loraine; daughters, Nancy and Peggy; son, Jon; seven grandchildren, Loraine, William, John, Jeff, Karen, Matt and Sara; nine great-grandchildren, Lucas, Cassandra, Aaron, Corey, Lynsie, Lee, Emma, Kailee and Tatum; sister, Ethel; numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles ‘Charlie’ was a retired research mechanic at The Boeing Company for 40 years, starting his career working in secrecy to produce the first B52 Bomber. Other notable Boeing programs Charlie was involved in included the Minuteman Missile System, the Lunar Orbiter, Lander and Rover programs, the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo space programs; and the 747 shuttle return system. Charlie also volunteered his time to restore the last remaining B29 ‘Fifi’ airplane in operation.
In his retirement, Charles was a docent for the Museum of Flight, logging in over 2, 400 hours of tours. He also served as a volunteer for the Federal Way Food bank for over 15 years.
Charles was a member of the Boy Scouts for 78 years, both as a scout and a leader, earning his Eagle Scout, and receiving numerous awards for his service, including the Silver Beaver Award, the Order of the Arrows, and the bronze, gold and silver Palm awards.
Charles was a High Priest at the Lakota Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Charles was well known for his love of Boston Terriers, model making, small gauge trains, antique toy trucks and giving the best hugs to his family and friends.
A private service will be planned.

Hi I’m looking for someone who was related to Loraine & Charles Butterfield..she was my Aunt’s best friend..we live in Il thank you. I was hoping this might still get forwarded to an E-mail update.
