Obituary
Damon Ford Singleton
Age 92, passed away peacefully on Sept. 4, 2010 in Seattle of natural causes. Born in Heaters, WV on Feb. 16, 1918 to Asa and Emma Singleton, Damon was the second oldest of 5 sons. Graduating from Sutton High School in 1938, Damon worked for his father on the family farm until enlisting in the Navy in 1940. He served throughout WWII, earning a Purple Heart, among many other commendations, and the Korean War as a gunner’s mate. He was a true American hero. Upon retiring from the Navy as a Chief Gunner’s Mate after 21 years of service in 1961, Damon continued in civil service for the next 18 years as a letter carrier. When his time with the Post Office was finished, Damon filled his days working in his extensive gardens, tinkering around his home, and staying up-to-date on the stock market.
Damon is survived by his wife of 62 yrs., Edith. Children include sons, Greg Val and Darrell Jack Sandie Singleton, and daughter, Gail Dehnert. Beloved grandchildren include Anthony Jessica, Kirsten, Teresa, and Jana. His only surviving sibling is Charles Singleton of Dunn, NC.
Damon was a quiet soul, loved and respected by many. He was proud of his service to country and showed patriotism and caring for family throughout his life. He cherished his connection with his home state, West Virginia.
Memorial services will be held by Bonney-Watson at 3:30, Thurs., Sept 9, 2010 with burial at Washington Memorial Park Cemetery in SeaTac.
Aunt Edith and family, my heart and prayers are with you. I’m sure Uncle Damon and Dad are up above getting into mischief like they use to as children. Love to all, Janet
To Edith, Greg, Jack, Gail, and family,
We are sorry to hear of the passing of my only remaining brother. He was a good man, always true to his word and always willing to help anybody that needed help. We know that Damon enjoyed his visit to North Carolina because we were able to share many memories and stories about our childhood, family and life in general. As the only remaining member of the Asa Singleton family I will walk proudly in your foot steps. I am going to miss Damon greatly, because there is no way not to miss him. Our childhood memories will never be forgotten. I want to thank my brothers for caring for me when I was young. May Damon forever rest in peace.
To my dear sister Edith, nephews and niece, and your grandchildren.Sending all our love and may all the good memories comfort you during this time. We will always remember him generously sharing his vegetable from his garden with us.
Edith, Greg, Jack, Gail and family
We offer our deepest condolences in your loss.

Aunt Edith, Greg, Jack, Gail and their families:
With love and sympathy in the loss of a great man, husband, dad, grandpa and uncle. He will be greatly missed by all. I will never forget his visits to WV, his letters to Dad & family and always a Christmas card. He was a person who enjoyed and loved his family and his country. May all our memories of time spent with him be some of our greatest treasures.

Uncle Damon was one of life’s “true gentlemen”. Here in New Zealand we would say he was a man of great “mana” meaning he was well respected and held in high esteem. My husband and daughter enjoyed our visit with him and Edith in 2005 when we were in Seattle. Listening to his stories at any time I ever saw him was always heartwarming and often held new and different infomation about his life growing up in the hills of West Virginia. I know my own father, Fred, Damon’s brother, thought very highly of Damon and often wished he could see more of him and the family. To Edith, Greg, Jack, Gail and all the family we send our very best wishes and will be there with you in spirit on the 9th. All our love to you. Rest in peace uncle.
