Florence Marie Anderson
December 18, 1913 – April 12, 2008

Florence Marie Anderson, 94 passed away peacefully in her sleep of natural causes on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Taylor’s Adult Family Home. Mrs. Anderson, was born, raised and lived in the South Park community of Seattle for most of her life. She had lived at Taylor’s Adult Family Home in Burien since suffering a stroke in 2003. Taylor’s Adult Family Home, owned, and operated by Florence’s niece, Sharon Taylor, provided her with wonderful care, and loving caregivers in her last years.
Born Florence Marie Piedmont, on December 18, 1913, she was the second daughter of John and Sarah Piedmont. Her mother Sarah’s, family settled in the South Park area in the late 1800’s, and after she married John, they built one of the first houses in the area in 1911.
Growing up, Florence attended South Park School, Concord Elementary School, and Cleveland High School. Young ‘Flo’ learned to sew and loved to make most of her own clothes. This developed into a love of tailoring and sewing which she later turned into a career. In 1940, she worked with her husband Grant and his partners in their fur shop called Andore’s Furs as a fur finisher and tailor. That business closed in 1948 and she later worked at such places as Seattle Quilt, Sportscaster, and The Alaska Arctic Fur Company. In 1968, Flo, Grant and their son Andy formed another family owned fur business that still operates today. She retired from that family business at the age of 83.
Flo married twice. Her first husband was Weymouth Moss, with whom she had two sons, Donald L. Don Moss and Richard C. Dick Moss. She later married Grant Anderson and they had one son, Ellerd G. Andy Anderson. She outlived both of her husbands, and her sons, Donald and Richard. Her youngest son Andy Anderson, and two sisters, Maxine and Thelma, survive her. She has many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and a host of friends who will all miss her independent, feisty spirit and generous, loving presence.
A service to celebrate her long life will be at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial Park, located at 16445 International Boulevard, SeaTac, WA 98166, on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 12:00 noon. Always thinking of others, Florence asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations are made in her name to Highline Hospice, to help others in need of end of life care, who cannot afford it.
