George P. Hlebasko

Obituary

George P. Hlebasko was born on January 14, 1929, in Whiting, Indiana. He died on January 12, 2007, in Federal Way, Washington, at the age of 77 years. George graduated from Northwestern University, and played on their football team in 1949 when they defeated California in the Rose Bowl 17 to 10. George went on to serve in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. George worked as a safety engineer, and was a 38 year member of the Elks Lodge. One of his most enjoyable pasttimes was volunteering as a clown to entertain children battling illnesses.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Cecile, of Tacoma, WA; three sons, George Linda Hlebasko, of New Market, Maryland, Stephen Becky Hlebasko, of Kentfield, California, and David Cynthia Hlebasko, of Bainbridge Island, WA; one brother, Andrew Hlebasko, of Indiana; and by five grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth, Laura, Michael, and Cameo. Private services will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery.

I graduated with George from Whiting High School class of 1947. We both served in the Marines. We talked quite often of serving in the Marines. My deepest condolences to his family
