Obituary
GEORGE SCHUTZ
George Schutz passed away October 26 in Burien, WA at the age of 93. He was born in 1924 in Hillview, IL, and spent many happy years of his Tom Sawyer-like childhood along the banks of the Illinois River. He moved to Champaign-Urbana to attend the University of Illinois, and received his degree in Fine and Applied Arts in 1949. He married his wife, Betty, in 1947 and they raised their family in Mahomet, IL. George was a master craftsman and worked in the remodeling business for many years, later becoming an instructor at the Vermillion Occupational Technical Education Center (VOTEC) in Danville, IL. He also taught Sunday school in the United Methodist Church. In 1985 they relocated to the Seattle area to be near their children.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, son Steven Schutz, two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his daughter Pamela McCarthy (William Kish) of Seattle, and daughter-in-law Mary Venturi of Puyallup. He is also survived by brother Bill (Eileen) Schutz of Elmwood, IL; and sister Sue Van Zandt of Poland, OH; as well as several nieces and nephews.
George was a true Renaissance man who was equally gifted in several disciplines including painting, design, carpentry, teaching and storytelling. He was a gentle soul with a marvelous sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, including many residents and staff of Wesley Homes where he resided for 16 years.
There will be a memorial service held in George’s honor on Sunday, November 12 at 2:00 pm at Logan Hall, Wesley Homes Gardens, Des Moines, WA. Donations may be given to the hospice programs at Wesley Homes Foundation, 815 W. 216th Street, Des Moines, WA 98198 or Highline Medical Center Foundation, 16259 Sylvester Road SW, Suite 101, Burien, WA 98166.
