Jacqueline Galland

The Dash
The middle child of five, she grew up in Yakima, spending some time in Puyallup, Tacoma and Federal Way (before it was a city) finally returning to Yakima to receive her diploma from Yakima Senior High School in 1951.
Her first career was as a nurse’s aide in Yakima. Later she met Harrison, married and settled down in south Seattle.
As a devoted mother, Jackie raised four boys, instilling values, honesty, trust, loyalty, integrity, love and so much more.
Jackie loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them and sharing memories. In the traditional family life of a one-income household, she was a true stay-at-home parent, only returning to the workplace after Dan, the youngest, was in first grade. Even then she kept a close eye as she was the school lunch lady.
Heavily involved in the PTA, becoming president for several years, she knew everything we did, even the mischievous.
As our Cub Scout Den leader, she kept all of us involved with the community.
She loved travelling and learning about the country, camping in various homebuilt RV’s with the family across the United States and then just the two of them taking a motorhome tour of the country in 1988. Cruising six weeks in a used Winnebago, the joke at the time was a piece of the motorhome being left in every state they went through, including Pennsylvania with a week-long engine rebuild from an Amish family.
Another great adventure was the international trip hosted in Germany by her oldest son, Randy while he was in the Air Force in 1982. They were able to visit several European countries and brought back many stories and memories, and more than a few souvenirs.
Later in life Bingo was her choice of enjoyment. She played and also worked in a few bingo halls in South Seattle.
When Harry passed away in 1998, it left a deep void. But she was an independent woman and remained active, making new friends.
One of her passions was to document her life and that of her parents and her own children. That led to writing a book. Everything she could collect and remember was catalogued, and we all now have a detailed chronicle of our family from both sides back to her grandparents.
Written in a storytelling style, it contains many anecdotal snippets, a few we may wish remained undocumented.
Someone once said everyone should plant a tree, raise a child and write a book, or maybe it was build a house.
Mom did all of these things. Honoring her wishes, a Snowball tree graces the yard, she raised four wonderful sons, wrote a treasured biography, and built a house of love.
She will be greatly missed.
On November 7th, surrounded by her family, Jackie peacefully left this earth, going to heaven to join her parents, Delbert Frederick (Kelly) Meyer and Lucile Thelma Kidd and her older brothers Jerome Charles (Boots) Meyer and Junior DeLos (Bud) Meyer as well as her one true love and husband of 45 years, Harrison Galland
Survived by her younger sisters Patricia Schliep, Donna Taylor, her children, Randolph (wife Rosemary), Gerald (wife Tracey), David and Daniel (wife Yvonne), her loving granddaughter Meredith (Tinsley) Galland (husband JJ), her great-grandson Jacob (Jake) Weneck, a grandson and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Really gonna miss you Mom.
I am really going to miss the fruit salad. No one could make it like Jackie.
Jackie will truly be missed. She was one of a kind and always up beat.
You three boys were so lucky to have had a loving caring mother.
