Obituary

Kenneth W. Harris

Passed away at Valley Medical Center on January 23, 2006 surrounded by his loved ones. Ken was born to DeForest Harris and Flossie Hamilton on May 4, 1927 in Grandview, WA.

Ken’s youth was spent hard at work on his family farm. He was a man of the sea, spending his early years as a Merchant Marine and later retiring after a long career with the Washington State Ferries as Chief Engineer.

During his retirement, Ken greatly enjoyed traveling all over the world with his wife Mae, playing cards and working in his garden. Ken also took great interest owning, breeding and watching his thoroughbred horse’s race at Emerald Downs.

Ken is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mabel, and his grandson, Jacob Harris. He is survived by his step-brother, Paul Diller, children Stephanie Harris, Royla Forest, Cynthia Baker, Deborah Harris and Leanne Myck, as well as grandchildren Carrie Harris, Sean Kessler, Shanna Nunn, Sierra Beingham and Taylor Hamilton. He also is survived by 14 great-grandchildren.

He will be remembered by his family and friends as sensitive, sometimes cantankerous and big hearted person who loved his family, church, community and horses. We will remember his sense of humor, especially his favorite saying, “I will stop driving when he can’t see Mt. Rainier.” His driving was always a scary experience for his passengers! He was greatly loved and will be missed.

Viewing, Friday, 1/27, from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. both at Bonney-Watson at Washington Memorial Park, 16645 International Blvd, Sea-Tac. Memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 16919 – 33rd Ave. So., Sea-Tac.

In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to Christian Children’s Fund, c/o Deborah Harris, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 16919 33rd Avenue South, Sea-Tac, WA 98188.

Royla

He was a great man. What a good husband, step-father and most of all, grandpa. I know he will be truly missed. I hope he is partying with Mae and their horses.
