Obituary
Michael Scott Corbell passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 19th, at his home in West Seattle after a long, courageous battle with Lung Cancer. His loving wife Linda was at his side.
Michael was born on May 18th 1952, and was raised in Seattle’s South End. He graduated from Rainier Beach High School in 1970. Michael joined the Navy after graduation and served in the Pacific aboard the USS Abnaki during the final days of the Vietnam War-serving his country was a distinction he was extremely proud of throughout his entire life.
Always striving for excellence, Michael built a career as a Commercial Property Manager and, at the pinnacle of his performance, chose to teach the Principles of Real Estate and Property Management at North Seattle Community College, shaping the lives of the younger people, a privilege he was very proud of.
Michael had an avid interest in history and, more than anything, loved talking about our family heritages, spending time with his wide circle of family and friends.
Known as “Scott” by his siblings, he was a member of a very close family and is survived by his wife Linda, his son, Michael David, his stepdaughter, Deborah (Jason) Mallett, and his brothers Ron (Martha), Randy (Debbie), Bob (Peggy) and Brian. Michael was also very close to his in-laws, Gary and Anita Connor, Becky (Steve), Patty (Marty), Sue (Bob), and his many nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Wes and Barbara, his sisters, Kim and Rori and sister in law Helen.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Henry Kaplan and staff at Swedish Cancer Institute for the wonderful care given to Michael. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Michael’s name to: Kaplan Cancer Research Fund c/o Swedish Foundatin 747 Broadway Seattle, Wa 98104
I did not personally know Michael but as I was looking through the obituaries my heart went out to his family. He sounded like a wonderful man, one who I am sure will be greatly missed. I, too, have lost loved ones before their time to cancer, perhaps that is why I was so saddened by his obituary.
I wanted to share a thought with you that helped get me through my grief. I always wondered if I would see my family members again, and I was shown a scripture that says we will see them again, on earth in fact! It is John 5: 28, 29 where Jesus said, “Do not marvel at this (the resurrections of dead ones he has just performed) because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out…to a resurrection of life.”
I thought this was such a wonderful hope for the future! If Jesus said this, I was sure it could be trusted. This is, of course, just one of the many scriptures that I was shown in the bible about this hope for the future. If you by chance would like to hear more of them you could contact me via email. Either way, I hope this one verse can bring you comfort, and knowing there are people thinking of you and your family during this difficult time. My deepest sympathies.
My deepest sympathy to wife Linda, son Michael David and stepdaughter Deborah, as well as all family members.
Mike was my associate and exceptional employee for several years. He was an outstanding person and a pleasure to know. At NWSS, we were thrilled for him when he became a Commercial Property Manager and our Client.
Sadly,
Darlene – Past President NWSS
