Obituary

Rosa Lee Byrd came into the world on April 14, 1925 in the city of Houston, Texas. She came to Washington as a teenager, seeking a better life. One without the limitations that were placed upon her in the south.

The first place she worked was the Harford Nuclear Plant. Her long and industrious work history included jobs at the shipyards of Bremerton, plant #2 at Boeing, and Korry Manufacturing Co. She retired in 1985 due to disability.

In 1948, Rosa Lee gave birth to her first child, Diane. Her family continued to grow with seven more children to follow, the last being Rose Marie in 1963. She made her family the focal point of her life.

Her personal relationship with Christ was the foundation upon which she built her life. She made her church home at the Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church under the spiritual leadership of the late Rev. Norman Mitchell and Wilbert Reed.

Rosa Lee was affectionately known by several terms of endearment. These include; Mother, Mer, Mommy, Mom, Mrs. T, Rosie, Rosa, Miss Rosa, Tugga, Tiny, and Ms. Rosie. Regardless of what you knew her as, you knew she had room in her heart, home and kitchen to fulfill your needs. Whether it was a plate of her incredible food or a place to rest your head; you realized that in her home, you were loved.

Rosa Lee went home to be with the Lord on March 30, 2006 at 10:40 a.m.

She was preceded in passing by her late husband Charles Walker Thompson, Sr. and two sons– Charles Walker Thompson, Jr. and Joseph Andrew Thompson.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters– Diane “Dianna” Byrd, Joann Thompson and Rose Marie “Rosie” Thompson., three sons– Clifford W. Thompson, Cardell W. Thompson and Clarence “Tubbs” Thompson, three granddaughters, Angela Rose Byrd, Odessa Marie Thompson and Danielle Patrice Thompson, one great grand daughter– Brooklyn Marie Agguire and one great grand son– Michael Charles Thompson, Jr. She also leaves a host of “adopted children”, relatives and friends.
