Obituary
Roy Hays was born January 27, 1951 in Richland Washington to George E. Hays and Iva G. Tucker Hays. He moved to the Seattle area when he was an infant and spent most of his childhood growing up in Normandy Park. He attended Normandy Park Elementary School, Olympic Jr. High School, and graduated from Mt. Rainier High School in Des Moines, WA, in 1969. He graduated from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA in 1973 where he majored in psychology, chemistry and physics. He met his wife Deborah while at Western Washington University. Roy’s life was all about family and friends. He and Deborah raised three children, Timothy, Andrew, and Sakara (Veronica).
Roy was an outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and skiing. He and his family travelled to many places in the world. A highlighted trip was one the family took to Singapore in 1989. Just prior to becoming ill with gastric cancer, Roy and Deborah had travelled to Belize. Roy spent most of his career developing medical monitoring equipment. His last 27 years were spent working for Spacelabs Medical most recently as their Chief Technology Officer.
Roy was preceded in death by his father, George and grandson Khabir Remmu. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Deborah, his sons Timothy and Andrew, his daughter Sakara Remmu, and mother Iva Hays. He leaves behind seven grandchildren, Jada, Kailani, Majestik, Maya, MacKenzie, Ella, and Cooper; sisters Jean, Chris, Ginger, and brother David as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Roy’s parting words were, “We do it all for family.”
Roy died peacefully at home April 17, 2014 surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Chris, I was sorry to read that Roy had passed away. I had only met him the several times I was at your folks’ house so many years ago. He seemed like a really special guy, and it was obvious by the way you talked about him (which you did a lot) how much he meant to you. I hope he left you many wonderful memories to ease the sorrow of losing him so early. God bless, and all my best.
Heartfelt condolences to all the Hays family.
Deborah and family,
I was saddened to hear of your loss. My thoughts, blessings and prayers are with you.
Deborah, We are holding you all in the warmth of our hearts. Surely the blessings of sweet loving memories will sustain you during these trying times. Love is the tie that binds us all together. We love you. Your Sister & Brother

Sakara – My heart go out to you and your family at this time of sadness … God will continue to bless you and your family Remember all the Good….
No heart breaks alone for God is always near. When a prayer is whispered God is always there to hear. When sorrow’s overwhelming, He comforts tenderly. A single tear never falls that he does not hear.(Psalms 65:2)
Roy was a friend and mentor, he was always actively looking at the world in unique and wonderful ways. It was privilege to know him and be able to say good bye.

I’m very sorry to hear of your loved one’s passing. My heart goes out to the family and friends. Many have looked to the bible for a hope to see them again. John 5:28,29 talks about a resurection and Psalms 37:11,29 talks about where this would take place. Again I’m sorry for the loss of your loved one Roy.
Kind Regards,
This is very shocking news, I am saddened to learn the loss of my dear friend who was very instrumental in bringing me to OSI Systems and for that I will be forever grateful. My sincerest condolence to his wife and all family members.
