Obituary

Steven Allen Sather, 52, of Seattle, WA died on Sept. 5 after a 3-month battle with lung cancer. Born in Moscow, Idaho on Jan. 3, 1958, he grew up in Oregon, third of four children to Gary and Jeannine Heimgartner Sather. He graduated from Neah-Kah-Nie High School, Rockaway Beach, Oregon in 1976. In high school he was involved in football, basketball and golf. He enjoyed family outings and hunting and fishing and camping. He continued his education at Oregon State University and graduated with a B.A. in Business Administration.

He married Karin Hevly in October 1997. They made their home in Wedgwood together with their son, Ryan, 10 and their daughter, Hannah, 7.

He worked from 1977 to 2009 in the fishing industry in Alaska, and he had his own fine woodworking business, Sather Woodworks, in Seattle. He made custom furniture and cabinets and did finish work.

He is survived by his wife and children, his parents, Gary and Jeannine Sather, of Lewiston, ID. brothers John and his wife Carole-Jean of Junction City, OR and Doug, of Hillsboro, OR and sister, Jean Stephenson and her husband, Dan of Silverton, OR and their families, and many aunts and uncles and cousins; his father and mother-in-law Jack and Connie Hevly, of Camano Island, sisters-in-law Janet Shapley, of Custer, Marianne Norden, of Tacoma, brothers-in-law Mike Hevly and his wife, Becky, of Edmonds and Brian Hevly and his wife Tiffany, of Boise, ID and their families.

He is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, and his brother-in-law, Roy Shapley.

In lieu of flowers, an education fund will be established for the children, or memorials can be made to the charity of your choice.

It appears that my old memories aren’t what they used to be but we will always have a special bond and I will miss him.
