Virginia Hansen Bonner
Virginia Hansen Bonner, 81, passed away peacefully in Federal Way, WA on November 6th, from complications resulting from Parkinson’s Disease and a hip fracture she suffered in 2011.
Virginia was born in Ellensburg, WA in 1931. She was the second of four children of Florence (Rasmussen) and Carl Hansen. She spent her early childhood living on her grandparents’ family farm. In 1942, the Hansen’s moved to Des Moines, WA where she attended school in the Highline School District.
Virginia graduated from Highline High School in 1949 and married her high school sweetheart, Don Bonner, in 1951while he was stationed in the U.S. Air Force in Denver, CO.
Virginia enjoyed numerous hobbies and crafts at which she was exceptionally skilled – sewing, knitting, cross-stitch embroidery, quilting, dollhouse miniatures. She also golfed and skied into her late 60’s. She and Don enjoyed owning and racing thoroughbred racehorses and loved world travel. When she wasn’t crafting or traveling, Virginia was a prolific and avid reader.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Mel. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Don; her siblings, Cheri Carlson, and Carl Hansen; daughters Karen Bonner and Tracey Bailey; 5 grandchildren (Lindsey and Derek Bonner, and Rebecca, Katie, and Christopher Bailey) and 1 great-grandson (Landon Desens). In lieu of flowers, donations to the King County Library system or charity of choice.
A Celebration of Life Open House for Virginia will be held Friday, November 30th from 2:00pm – 5:00pm at the Twin Lakes Golf & Country Club in Federal Way.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifing rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die.

I was one of Virginia’s caregivers for the last year and half of her life. She was always such a wonderful person, and I had such an amazing experience getting to know her. She was always good for a laugh, and I always enjoyed her company. I will always miss her dearly; Virginia and her family will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. I just want to say thank you to Don for all the care and love he provided her, I’ve never seen such a committed couple. God bless all of you.
