Obituary
Adeline G. Reinhardt
April 19, 1917-October 4, 2012
There was a celebration in Heaven when Adeline “Audie” Reinhardt joined the Heavenly Choir on October 4, 2012. Adeline was born April 19, 1917, twin to Muriel, and the youngest of 10 children. Their parents, Tony and Bertha Larsen, were Norwegian immigrant farmer/fishermen.
After High School, Adeline moved to Oshkosh to attend Business College. There, she met Arthur Reinhardt and they married in 1941. For their honeymoon, the newlyweds traveled and lived in the Canal Zone, Panama, where Art worked for Pan Am Airlines.
They relocated to the Seattle area in 1942, settling in Des Moines. They raised three daughters, Geri, Susie and Joanie. They were charter members of Grace Lutheran Church in Des Moines. They enjoyed beachcombing and collecting driftwood and shells. Muriel and her family lived close by and the families spent time together at the Reinhardt’s cabin on Marrowstone Island and other beaches.
Upon Art’s retirement in 1976, they moved permanently to Marrowstone and Art added on to their small cabin, building their retirement home. Adeline worked as a secretary in Oshkosh, for the State of Washington in Seattle and in federal positions in Keyport and Indian Island.
Over the years, Art and Audie enjoyed airline pass benefits through Pacific Northern, Western and Delta Airlines and traveled the world. They visited cousins in Norway, and enjoyed Australia and New Zealand. They made frequent visits to siblings, daughters, family and friends in Oregon, Wisconsin, Ohio, Georgia, Alaska, Florida, and wherever the whim took them.
After Art’s passing in 1981, Adeline returned to Des Moines and continued beachcombing with her sister and friends, flying around the country to visit family, and church and neighborhood activities. She played a mean game of Spite and Malice, enjoyed the Mariners, read Louis Lamour novels, wrote poetry, and shared stories of her life with all.
Adeline was preceded in death by her husband, Art, her nine brothers and sisters, and daughter, Susan Dale. She is survived by daughters, Geri Clarke and Joanie Lyke; sons-in-law, Mark Lyke and Harold Dale; grandchildren: Debra, Michelle, Heidi, Eric, Jeremy and Brian; 7 great grandchildren; Sally and Tony, Muriel’s children; many extended family and loving friends.
We will celebrate her life on October 20, 2012. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at Bonney Watson/Washington Memorial Park at SeaTac. A Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Des Moines. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Missions.
In Adeline’s words: “Life is a song, a prayer, and thousands of memories.”
Joanie & Mark,
Sounds like she was a very energetic, fun, and interesting lady. I know she will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. May your memories of times together comfort you.
Love & hugs,
Sheryl Martin
Her life was and is a celebration with all she enjoyed and accomplished. Our thoughts to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as the rest of Reinhardt and Larsen relatives.
We will forever cherish our lifetime of memories of dear Adeline. The years we lived in Des Moines and all the years after. We send our sympathy & love to Geri & Joanie, & the grandchildren & great grandchildren as well as other family members.
What a beautiful life well lived!
I am sorry for your loss and my prayers go out for for her family.
If people’s lives can be described as a book, Aunt Audie’s was a wonderful story full of many color pictures!
Both Patty and I will miss my dear Aunt Audie. This year Audie and I celebrated our birthdays together. Her 95 and my 60th. I know we both have been in pour health but I know that she is celebrating it in a better place with Art and her brothers and sisters. Espically my mother her twin sister Muriel. Our prays and love to all. Love Patty and Tony.
Sweet Aunt Adeline always with a story, poem or some ditty that she had composed. My special aunt who I learned from could share my stories, troubles, and antics with. Glad to help her when she there was a need. Knowing she has joined her family with the Lord, including my mother, Muriel, who was her twin gives me peace and also leaves an emptiness in my life but I know she is in a better place. The Larsen twins are together once again and they are probably driving the Lord crazy.
Even though we never met in person, (I’m a distant Reinhardt cousin from Wisconsin) I enjoyed her letters and her stories! I’m sure she’s enjoying her reunion in Heaven with God and her loved ones! My sympathy to Geri, Joanie and their families.
I’ll always remember Audie and Art … we had many family celebrations during the Holidays when they lived in Des Moines.
She was a unique lady with many talents and I loved her very much. I wish her a glorious everlasting reunion with her beloved husband Art and daughter Susie. We were blessed to have had her with us for as long as we did. Now it is time for her to go to God’s house. To my family I send you my deepest condolences knowing she is gone makes me sad but I’ll never forget her dear heart~RIP Dearest Audie
