Obituary
Albert “Bill” W. Wood was born July, 4th, 1932, in Eugene, Oregon and passed away January 21, 2016, in Kent, WA at the age of 83 years old. He experienced a fatal heart attack in his home early in the day, but was surrounded by family at Valley General Hospital where he peacefully passed away around 6pm.
Bill graduated from West Seattle High School in 1951 and remained connected with his classmates over the years. He served in the Navy during part of the Korean War, received his B.A. from Central Washington University, and his Masters from Seattle University. He taught for the Highline School District and retired from his career as the Director of Student Placement. On a ski bus to Snoqualmie he met his future wife Carol Mock, also a teacher in the Highline School District. They married on July 23rd, 1976 in Friday Harbor. They enjoyed boating in the Puget Sound and throughout the San Juan Islands on their 24 foot Sea Ray “Rendezvous” before settling down to have a family in Normandy Park, WA.
Bill always wanted to help others whether it was his family, friends, or community. He belonged to the Highline Exchange Club, volunteered his time in the Marina Pointe HOA, and served on the planning committee for his 60th high school reunion. He was a loving and supporting husband and father, a rock for his family. He is survived by his wife Carol Wood, daughter Denise Alexander, granddaughters Sam, Stephanie, and Sara, daughter Kelli Wood (Kris) Geren, grandson Grayson, son Brent Wood, sister Barbara (Walt) Stredicke, niece Teri (Chris) Stehr, nephew Steve (Sara) Stredicke (Cole, Riley, and Stella), brother and sister in law Boyd (Maralyn) Lindholm, nephews Jeff, Steve, and Michael Lindholm; Jeff and Bob Tatum.
At his request there will be no service. His ashes plan to be spread throughout the Puget Sound. Please sign the guestbook and share your memories with his family and friends.
Rest in Peace Bill. Deepest sympathies Carol to you and the rest of the family.
The Wood family has welcomed the Gerens into their extended family and Bill was always so gracious to all of us. He will be missed and we have special memories of happy times shared with Bill and family.
Bill will always be remembered as kind, giving and always there to lend a hand. He lived his life to support us in everything we did…from gymnastics, to cheerleading to our careers. He was our biggest cheerleader. We will miss him dearly.
Thanks Bill for all the great memories.
Seeing you at all the Exchange Club festivities for as long as I can remember, you always made them great times.
We’ll all miss you, God bless
Bill was a great friend to the Highline Baseball program and I am saddened that he is gone but glad to have known him.
Bill was the best. He was always there to help anyone that needed help no matter how well he knew them.
He will be for ever in our hearts. Our prayers and support are with you Carol and your family. If you need anything we’re a few steps away.
Sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. Bill was a great help in Student Placement when I was teaching in the Highline School Dist. Melinda and I have great memories of working with Bill at Highline Stadium during football season along with so many other great Highline Educators. And of course, not to be forgotten, the fun our kids had together at day care. Carol, Denise, Kelli and Brent, our deepest condolences.
Bill was one of our first neighbors we met when we moved to Marina Pointe almost three years ago. We are so glad to have known him even if it was such a short while.
RIP Bill, you were a very good friend of many years.
Billy will always remain in our prayers! I have never meet a friend that cared more for family and friends. What fun we had for all those years boating and teaching together. Our summer trips up to Desolation Sound will never be forgotten. Carol , God Bless, and I hope Joanie and I will see you soon. You and Bill will always remain in our hearts.
So many baseball memories of Bill and Carol, including celebrating their anniversary while at a tournament in San Jose. We are blessed to have spent so many summers with your family at so many ballparks. I hope they have baseball up in Heaven, because I smile to think of Bill and Richard sitting in the stands with their shirts off watching a game. God Bless the Wood family. — The Dingwall’s, Janis, Eric & Mike.
Bill was super kind and generous with his time and knowledge while helping his neighbors in Marina Pointe.
We will miss his friendly chats, smiles and waves as he drove by our home.
God must have needed another conscientious soul in heaven to take Bill so soon.
Blessings to Carol and family as you journey through the grief process.
I am also sad to hear of Bill’s passing. We were Assistant Directors of Pupil Personnel Services (me for Special Education) together for several years. Bill was great to work with and was very down to earth and wise. I had great respect for him.. He also prepared great salmon at many administrative meetings at Camp Waskowitz.
We send our deepest sympathy to Carol and the whole family. Bill was a great person and will be missed. We are so happy that we got to see you both in September.
I am so sorry for your loss, Deni.
My husband Mike and I were sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. Time goes so quickly. It seems like yesterday that Bill and Carol were seated beside us cheering on our daughter Kelli and Brie at Diaz Gymnastics Academy. Bill was such a strong supporter of the girls. We spent so much time at meets practices, car pooling, on the road and fund raisers. I always enjoyed being around him and will never forget the good times we had. Rest in peace.
We have known Bill since the days when he had that purple Charger and the weekend bus ski trips. I worked under Bill in the Student Placement Office for many years as a school social worker. He was always like a mentor or older brother to me rather than a boss. He included me in many of his social activities.
One of the things I appreciated most about Bill is that he always treated me with dignity even when we disagreed. Whenever I got in trouble with the higher ups in the Highline School District, he always had my back. What a loyal friend!
I am very grateful to have had a long telephone conversation with Bill a couple months ago going over old times and my great appreciation to a wonderful boss and friend. Our prayers and thoughts will be with you, Carol and family.
I met Bill through his sister Barb a number of years ago. To see how protective he was of his little sister showed me the great love and kindness in his heart. As time went on, my husband Mike was awarded a large job at Marina Pointe. Bill was always a top notch businessman and soon we became fast friends. He helped us out with the paperwork process bringing over the invoices for me to type. He was a leader with a servant’s heart only wanting to help and please in any way he could. Our heart goes out to Carol and the family. The memory of his warm smile and kind ways will forever remain in our heart.
Bill was beloved by me, as he was by so many others. I want to send my love and deepest condolences to his lovely wife and partner Carol, to Brent and Kelli and my mom Denise. I love you guys xx
Love,
Stephanie
