Al was a great mentor to me when I was growing up. I will always remember the many fishing trips to Neah Bay, Port Angeles and one especially great one to Alaska with Al and my father. Al inroduced me to the sea, taught me to fish, and got me started playing gin rummy, afflictions I have since been unable to rid myself of and probably never will. Perhaps as many hours were spent playing gin rummy as fishing, yet we never once failed to catch fish and often caught more than any other boat including the “pro’s”, but to this day I do not recall Al ever cleaning a fish. Those were among the best times of my life and I will fondly remember Al every time I see a Salmon.

At this moment I am in Phoenix caring for my father, Arnie Thoreson, one of Al’s closest friends, who now has Alzheimers and is unfortunately unable to fully grasp this loss. From both of us, our sympathies and condolences. Al will be sorely missed.
