Obituary

Albert Francis Field, age 83 passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 27, 2011.

He was born in Weatherford, Texas on December 19, 1927. As a child and young man growing up in Parker County, North Central Texas where he once met Frank Buck, Al worked with his physician grandfather on the family farm and helped with minor surgeries in his grandfather’s home-based practice. Al could fish, shoot, drive a mule team and fly a light plane, raise show birds and remove tonsils after washing his hands, of course.

He was a proud Texas Aggie, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering, and the following year earned a Bachelor of Science in Management Engineering. He served with the United States Air Force in the emerging area of missile research and development, receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of 1st Lt. in 1958. The United States flag to which he is entitled will be donated to another veteran’s family.

In the commercial sector, Al worked for Braniff International Airways, Walter Kidde Co. and almost 30 years for Boeing Aerospace Company, from which he retired in 1989. He was deeply involved in the Apollo/Saturn V programs and helped design the first Lunar Rover vehicle. For his “significant contribution” to the program, his name is recorded in The Boeing Company’s Apollo/Saturn V Roll of Honor.

Albert is survived by his son, Russell Wendee Field; grandchildren, Phillip and Andrew Yuki Nakajima Field, Michael Pepper, Gabriel Mercedes Tenuta and Jason Brown; three nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacquelaine in 2000. Viewing will be held on Friday, February 4th, 2011 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 7th, 2011 at 12:00 noon at BONNEY-WATSON Federal Way, 1535 SW Dash Point Rd., Federal Way, WA. 253 839-7317. Interment, Mt. View Cemetery, Auburn, WA. The family prefers memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer’s Research.

I knew Mr. Field’s for many years. I worked for Kelly Gunderson at Smith Barney and helped managed his accounts. He was also a neighbor accross the 17th fairway on twin lakes. I used to see him sit out on one of the big rocks at sunset with his cat Cinaman and used to wave to him from my deck. Sometimes I would see him in the yard and talk to him from the fairway when I was playing thru. He was a very delightful and interesting man. I am sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Sincerely Leslie

I appreciate the privilege of working with your parents over all these years.

I also appreciated your dad proofing all of our new correspondence. He was a great guy.

My sympathies to the Field Family. I didn’t know Albert, but I do know Russ. After reading about Alberts wonderful life, I wish I had the chance to meet such a wonderful person. Russ, you are wonderful too, and my sympathies are for you and your family. Just keep rembering the love you have for him, and he for you. That never changes or dies. Let others support you at times. I wish you all peace of mind and heart.
