Obituary
ALEC W BRINDLE
Alec W. Brindle was born in Seattle on Oct. 18, 1938. He went to his reward on May 12, 2019, when recovery from major spine surgery eluded him.
Alec attended St. Joseph elementary school, Seattle Preparatory School, Santa Clara University, and the University of Washington School of Law and he held an honorary doctorate from the University of Alaska, SE. Asked about his career, Alec would describe himself as “a recovering lawyer and a retired Alaska fish packer.” He practiced law in Seattle for several years; but on the death of his father, he assumed leadership of the family business, Wards Cove Packing Co., and stayed at the helm for over 20 years, becoming a leader in the industry.
Alec was preceded in death by his first wife, Cornelia “Pinky” Brindle. He is survived by his wife, Maddy; his son, Alec, Jr., Alec’s wife, Ana Sofia, and their daughter, Amélia Alexander (aka “Our Girl”); Maddy’s children, Sheila Beer and Patrick Connolly (Douglas Berman) and grandchildren, JP and Maddy Beer; and siblings Sara Blair (Rob) and Barbara Lally (John).
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Seattle on Wednesday, May 22nd, at 11:00 am. Alec’s ashes will be scattered in the Tongass Narrows in southeastern Alaska, the home of Wards Cove and a place that remained close to his heart.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a worthy cause of your choosing.

Alec was a treasured friend for half a century and a true gentleman
Sad to hear of the passing of Mr Brindle, I will never forget the opening day of boating seasons spent on the trawlers in the parade with him running the show.

Dear Brindle Family,
I mainly knew Alec through correspondence (written and phone) and am grateful that I finally met him 1 1/2 years ago here in Ketchikan at our first donor appreciation luncheon for Philanthropy Day. Alec was always gracious and welcoming to me, what a kind man. We here in Ketchikan are so grateful to both Alec and Alec Jr. for establishing the Cornelia A. Brindle Cancer Resource Center. We opened the Center in March. I wish he could have seen it. The Center and the resources and programming for patients with cancer are an incredible gift. God bless all of you who he loved, I am so sorry for your loss. Long live the memory and good works of Alec W. Brindle Sr.
I work for a library in Kitsap County, Wa. I did not know Alec Brindle, Sr. but have recent opportunities to look at his book “Ward’s Cove…” published in 2017.
Just last week, a request from the Unalaska, AK public library came to us, requesting to borrow our copy of Alec Brindle’s book for a patron.
Three of our staff members looked at the book as we pulled it off the shelf, and found different interesting things in it: early business in the Alaska seafood industry, recollections of our own days in Alaska canneries or fisheries, and the family & Lake Union histories as well. We all wish to check it out when it comes back from the Alaska loan.
I would like to honor Alec W. Brindle, Sr.’s contribution to the historical and genealogical history of Alaska and Washington. He did a fine thing with this book.
I am very sorry for your loss.
Alec, Thank you for the opportunity in life. You were a great boss and partner. You will be missed.
