Obituary

Alfred Neal Petitt was born on May 24, 1926 to the union of Winner and Irene Petitt in Waelder, Texas. On Friday, March 3, 2006 he went home to be with the Lord.

Alfred accepted Christ as his Savior early in life. He attended and was baptized at First Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas.

Alfred was educated in the public school system of San Antonio, Texas, where he excelled academically. He graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1942, two full years ahead of his graduating class at age sixteen.

After high school, Alfred completed one year of carpenter training. He then accepted a civil service job at Kelly Field, Texas, where his affection for aviation became apparent. He was called away to military service two years later. Alfred was honorably discharged from the Navy after serving from 1945 to 1946.

While in Seattle visiting his mother, Alfred met Nannie Nan Beatrice Carter, who also happened to be in town visiting her sister, Ruth. Ruth already knew Alfred and introduced the two of them. After a brief courtship, Alfred and Nan were united in matrimony on April 15, 1951. They remained married until Alfred’s passing nearly 55 years later. Their union produced two children, Gilbert Neal and Kathleen Maria Petitt.

Alfred was an extremely devoted husband and father. He found great enjoyment in birthdays, holidays and other family gatherings. The dominoes games during these gatherings became legendary over the years. He actively supported his family’s outside activities; whether it was attending community events, special church programs, sports events, musical performances or educational endeavors. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and became quite a history buff. Most of the family vacations throughout the United States included visits to interesting historical places he had read about.

Alfred was also an avid bowler. He bowled in at least one bowling league each week. He enjoyed it as a recreational and social outlet for much of his adult life in Seattle. He organized and participated in numerous bowling leagues for over fifty years.

Alfred’s passion for airplanes was apparent throughout his long and successful career at The Boeing Company. Shortly after he was employed by Boeing, he completed a technical training course in Illustrative Engineering and became a draftsman. Alfred rose through the ranks of drafting to become a technical designer; a distinction reserved for the most highly skilled draftsmen who exceed the highest level of the drafting profession. He spent a significant portion of his career designing galleys for 747 airplanes and various other commercial airplanes. He retired from Boeing on June 1, 1988 after thirty-eight years.

Preceding Alfred in death was both of his parents; older sister, Winner Maurine Petitt and younger brother, Xenophant Petitt. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Nan; one son, Gilbert N. Leslyn Petitt; one daughter, Kathleen M. Donald Wilcox; four grandsons, Louis Clinton Marshall, Union, WA, Marcus Neal Petitt, Brandon Malcolm Petitt and Nathaniel James Wilcox, all living in Seattle, WA; two nephews, Michael Petitt, Los Angeles, CA and Xenophant Petitt Jr., Seguin, TX; two nieces, Linda Ehizulean, Las Vegas, NV and Delores Haywood Burrell, Seguin, TX and a host of other relatives and friends.

Dear Nan and Family,

It is true that some people come into our lives and quickly leave, while others stay awhile… leaving footprints on our hearts and we are never again the same.

Your neighbors as well as Tucker the Terrier… our dog who got caught in the front gate one day, do you remember that?
