Alice P. Shores

May 30, 1924 - March 24, 2016

Obituary

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our mother and friend, Alice Pauline Shores on March 24, 2016.  She has joined her heavenly family, and we rejoice that she is at peace.

Alice was the second of 4 children born to Torvald Trunsen Lien (Tom Lee) and Antonia Nelsen Lien (Tina Lee) in St. Thomas, North Dakota on May 30, 1924.  Her childhood was spent on the family farm in a close knit community of Norwegian immigrants.  Life was challenging but the family survived.  Mom often talked about ice skating during the winter.  She was graceful, and never without a partner.  Milking the cows daily was not such a fond memory.  Salutatorian of her graduation class, Alice attended secretarial school and moved to Seattle.  Still a teenager, it was such a brave thing to do!  Mom found work at Boeing, where she met Dad, Paul Shores. Their wedding on May 5, 1944 was small.

Our mother was a homemaker.  Alice sewed dresses and costumes, decorated beautiful cakes, kept an immaculate home, took us to lessons and Campfire.  She was active in our lives, and volunteering was a big part of her life.  Our parents were married for 70 years, and in that time they played cards with a lot of friends.  Family and friends kept Mom’s social life busy.

Alice is survived by her daughters Evelyn Robinson (Earl), Karen Alvin (Ken), and grandchildren Stephanie, Stephen, Paul, Meredith, Will and Colleen.  Beloved great grandchildren are Kiana, Laney, Anaya, Toby, Callista, Amanda, Alyssa, Kyle, Dawson and Harrison, and 3 great grandchildren.  Mom is survived by her brother John Lee (Joyce) in St. Thomas, ND.  Her nieces and nephews from home were always close to Mom’s heart.

                                      With affection and love,

                                      Evelyn and Karen

Condolences to the Shores family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to your whole family. Psalms 147:3 says God, “heals the broken hearted, and binds up their wounds.” May God bring you comfort and peace.
