Alice Ruth Checki, age 101, of Auburn, Washington, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025. Born in Viborg, South Dakota, Alice lived a rich and creative life that touched many.


A woman of many talents, Alice’s professional journey included work as a hairdresser and supporting her husband’s business, but it was her later calling as an artist that truly showcased her creative spirit. She became renowned for her masterful use of color, particularly in watercolors, where she captured the beauty of New England lighthouses, delicate orchids, vibrant lilacs, autumn landscapes, and various birds. Her artwork was featured in festivals and events, and she shared her passion through teaching, both privately and at local art stores. Her greatest joy came from hosting art classes for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, ensuring her artistic legacy would live on through generations.


Beyond her artistic pursuits, Alice was an active community member who enjoyed golfing, boating, and traveling. Her great way with storytelling and creative spirit inspired all who knew her.


Alice is survived by her daughter Pam Johnson (Chris), son Damon Checki, grandchildren Ashley Johnson (Sallie Hirsch) and Guy Johnson (Claire Sandstrom), and great-grandchildren Rio, Felix, Ansel, Svea, Edeline, and Freya.


A mass celebrating Alice’s life will be held on March 17th at 11am PST at St. Vincent De Paul Parish in Federal Way, Washington.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Village Concepts of Auburn – Brennan Park for their compassionate care and endless support.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Alice in your own special way.
