Alo Arlene Wise
Alo Arlene Wise was born July 22, 1921 in Clayton County, Iowa to George Henry and Julia Ann (Smock) White, and passed away July 14, 2014 in Redmond, Washington at the age of 92 years.
Alo worked as a bank clerk for the Federal Reserve.
Alo is survived by her daughters, Gayle Hassard, and Marcia Brown; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a sister Mary Ellen Christie.
There will be no public services.
I first met my Aunt Alo when I was 9. One of my fondest memories was roller skating in the basement and spending nights with my cousins, Gayle and Marcia. Our giggling must have kept her awake on many occasions. I can still hear her saying, “You girls go to sleep”.
The summer she and cousin Marcia came to visit me in Juneau, Alaska while on a cruise was also a highlight and even more so because it wasn’t raining cats and dogs!
Being able to share a new born grandson with her and helping celebrate her 90th birthday while watching family and friends come to honor her were other great moments.
She was a woman of strong faith and wanted us all to follow the Lord’s ways. Was she perfect, no, none of us are. Was she loving, caring, strong, and faithful, most certainly she was. Did she love baseball? Every minute. I had the pleasure to watch a couple Mariners games with her and it was a blast.
We laughed, cried and prayed together. I will love her forever and thank God for how she witnessed, loved and chastised me from time to time. If I could have picked a mom, I would have picked her hands down. My life was blessed just having her in it. A piece of me is gone from this earth but forever in my heart. I look forward to seeing her again, and much like the last time I saw her in life, standing at the door waving and smiling. I love you Auntie Alo.
Aunt Alo was not only a woman of great faith but a woman with a grand sense of humor. She and Aunt Mary came to Grand Rapids on the train to see my parents. My dad Woody White was one of her older brothers. We had such fun together!!! The White siblings all had a funny bone and all loved baseball. My husband Bill and I saw her last fall and had a good visit with her . When we left Bill played her favorite hymns on the grand piano at her care center… It brought a tear to her eyes and a big hug for Bill. We chatted every week on the phone and I enjoyed being part of her life . She always had a smile on her face and a positive outlook. She will be missed by those whose lives she touched!!
