Alvina Rosina Springer
Obituary
Alvina Rosina (Schlecht) Springer
May 31, 1925 to February 6, 2023
Alvina (Schlecht) Springer was born and raised in South Dakota. Her parents were Gottfried and Wilhelmina (Baer) Schlecht. She was blessed with siblings Hulda, John, Art, Esther, Irene and John Jr.
She married her sweetheart Alvin (Bud) Springer on April Fools’ Day, 1943. They moved to Seattle in 1944.
Alvina did work out of the home at different times, but her primary focus was as wife and mother. She loved her family, including her 3 children: Gerrie (Dick) Peterson, Penny (Frank) Savage, and Rick Springer; and 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Alvina loved sharing her gifts with those she cared about and those less fortunate. She sewed many outfits for her children and grandchildren, and her daughters’ dolls! She was known for her brownies, cookies and pies which she shared with many people. Her homemade jelly was eagerly anticipated by many. Alvina prepared many meals for family and friends and was especially known for her struddles, made from her mother’s recipe. She was also crafty and made stuffed frogs, many quilts, Christmas ornaments and other items which she enjoyed giving to others.
Some of her favorite activities were being with other people, playing cards and other games, and dancing. The special song they loved dancing to was “The Blue Skirt Waltz”. It was hard for Alvina to pass a garage sale without stopping – she loved a good deal! She also enjoyed traveling throughout 49 states; camping, fishing, hiking and riding bikes. For over 20 years, Bud and Alvina spent half the year at their home in Arizona.
Bud and Alvina were married 75 years, until Bud’s death January 27, 2019.
Alvina’s faith was very important to her. She was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church for over 60 years. She loved attending worship services and Bible studies; helping with Vacation Bible School and other church activities in earlier years.
Alvina passed away on February 6, 2023 at Great Leaf Home Care, at the age of 97, of natural causes. The family wants to thank Ernie and the staff at Great Leaf for their excellent care given to Alvina for over 4 years.
A memorial is scheduled for Sunday, March 12th at 2:00 p.m., at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 16919 33rd Ave S, SeaTac, WA 98188. In lieu of flowers, donations to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
